great, amazing, narly car. just not my cup of tea.
    if interested, le tme know.

i tend to be quite fair and reasonable in pricing. i would need to probably do this thru a porsche guy since i would want these proceeds to offset apurchase i'm making for sales tax purposes.

my apologies entirely for originally having posted it with the words matching serials in the title. not sure how i got confused on that when typing it up, but i definately stand corrected. complete marti report available thru me, or marti, if interested. someone asked why the 351. i frankly am not sure why they put in a 351. i think a lot of these cars have modified engines, but i do know that they had a chance to get the engine done by a special group adn thats the way they went. a beautiful engine with that much more pop.

Not sure how its a "numbers matching" w/o original motor. I guess its not my cup of tea either.

you're correct. i was wrong. as noted, not sure how i got in my wee brain that it was as such when i typed up the listing as i was 100% familiar (and gave big props) for the 351 engine. ..andyway, adjusted and all is correct now. again, if interested, you are free to give me a call.

i cant speak to the value or 'collectability' of a shelby with a 351 vs. stock engine. i know in the porsche world, i personally like cars that are plain stock a to z including radios and exhaust. but i also have a few with modified parts and they are pretty darn neat also.

hope all is good. i'm taking it over to Corinthian motors later.

had an offer for $95k for it. do you think thats a fair offer? to me, seems a tad low..thoughts? ideas?

IMHO 95k for that car is about right -- I'd want to put my hands on it for that -- the paint and fit and finish would really have to be 9 out of 10 for that $$ -- I looked at this car on e-bay this morning -- can't remember if it's manual -- i think it is -- so it's a nice color combo and a seemingly well restored car -- not having the original block will ding it up to 30% of its value -- again just my opinion -- ultimately any car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it -- I don't know what you are in it for but I think 95 is right on the number -- john

sorry -- me chiming in again -- I just rechecked the add to see that it is a color change from Highland Green to black -- in our world also a bit of a ding -- still a nice car but 95 is starting to smell to me like what we like to call "all the money" -- but I am curious as to the other opinions from the smart guys around here -- and I mean that sincerely -- they are smart -- john

i have about 90ish in the car, so thats a reasonable figure, so might not be unreasonable. i just dropped it off at Joespeh Frohlich's shop, Corinthian Motorworks. they do a ton on old muscle cars. he has a gorgeous red gt350 he's working there, a few old caddies and some others. i only know of him by word of mouth, had never done anything with him before since porsche isnt his specialty and i have another shop for that. anyway, anyone is free to speak to him. 201 934 8888. he is reviewing it for me, going thru it a to z and has to fix a few of the guages which are pegged. gas, oil. he had it on the lift and about 5 guys were under it. he felt it was incredibly clean and the black paint was perfect. black is a tough color to get right and this was done perfecto. he has a collector he represents, who would check it out thru him. but he has a great reputation and would probably speak to you on the car. his# is 201 934 8888.
like i said, i didnt buy it for profit. i bot it to own, to collect , to be meaningful. and it isnt. yet, funny, being there in that shop with all those motorheads gawking and looking and touching (fyi, interior is a 9 maye a 10), and seeing them eye it up, i kind of feel like i should keep.

heck, what kind of message blog is this? here i am vascillating about selling, talking about selling, and noone is making the car for the black beast!? atually looking at it seems to make the greatest case. its just so darn narly. really. too bad those things drive , i hatesaying it, sloppy. engine roars and just turns heads. anyone here think i'm making a wild mistake selling it?
i kind of think i am, but i also have a crazy nice new addition lined up. nothing too loved up here. its a german thing.

    dudes, later.

i think color is less of an issue than engine. especiall when you see how insanely gorgeous that black is....highland green is nice, but you end up repainting anyway, and atleast in the porsche world, you're never going to get it exact even if you order something which is supposed to be black.
items of 'ding' are engine, paint. items of value are that the darn thing is done wonderfully.

what do most people do with their shelby's.? just own, drive? sit and gawk at them? i have some porsche i do the latter, some the former, some a bit of both.

i had this vision of taking that thing out ever so often, driving it around here and there...but frankly, its so ridiculously nice, i just cant phathom it.

anyone of interest, speak to Joe @ Corinthian motorworks. he can walk u thru what he's got in there right now.

    ..................................

all considered, i've taken down the ebay auction (despite that i had two bids >$102k or so). and i'm gonna keep it. saw it at the shop today; it is just so nice. wild that we as a country used to build things/cars of such impeccable quality. somehow ford went frm that, to the KCar. says a lot.

so i'm really excited. not sure what i was thinkinga bout there. a little brain fart of sorts. anyway, thx to all those who PM'd me and spoke to me. i'm really happy with my decision. i'll share some more photos when i get some later next week.

me wishes...a little flare my man, a little colour as they say...
then again, isnt the unicorn part of the folklore regarding magical pixie dust that makes you loopy.
as noted, lets write the whole thing off as a big brain fart.
fyi, a guy named adam j. had emailed me regarding a white gt350 he was thinking about buying when i delisted mine.. was that yours.? if so, i also have another potential buyer who had contacted me i could refer you to.
i'm not sure if that was you or not but i saw you had a white gt350 and adam mentioned getting an email about the same...
if it was and you're still interested in selling, let me know and i'll forward you to the prospective buyers i turned down.
    hope all is well.
    enjoy.

well we here consider highland green a great color -- it's sometimes called "bullet" green for the Steve Mcqueen flick where he drove a highland green 67 FB through the streets of Frisco at high speeds -- and as a purist I'm in favor of restoring these cars to as close to factory specs as possible -- I think most Shelby owners frown on modifications to the motor or color changes -- sometimes they removes the original drivetrain and put it on a stand and put a same size and specs motor under the hood in order to drive the car without the fear of damaging the block -- i know it sounds a bit strange perhaps to Porsche enthusiast -- I have a 2006 997 c4s -- a great car -- i love it -- and i drive it for fun -- and i have friends who put 930 motors in older 911's and lower them and make them monsters -- that's fun -- Shelby's are collector art for the garage -- they are rare -- your 350 was one of 1253 made in 1968 -- how many still exist? -- how many were highland green? -- how many have their original drivetrain? -- art for the garage and the value of that art to serious collectors is directly related to its "originality" -- again -- this is one man's opinion -- i would like to hear others on the forum chime in -- again -- I love your car -- black on black looks awesome -- if i were you and you love it -- keep it -- it's still a great investment -- just know that to this Shelby guy if i had to choose between your car and a car that was sitting next to it that was an original numbers matching highland green car with original motor etc. -- i would opt for the green car and pay more for it -- just my opinion -- enjoy that car -- it's beautiful -- 1 or 1253 -- very nice -- john

first, tx so much for your reasoned response. i am definately keeping it. i gave corinthian motorworks the green lite to go thru it a to z and get everything in order. we changed the oil, and fluids, and they changed the oil sender unit and a few other things but the guy felt the car was running great. he felt the same way you did. and frankly after just spending some time with it, i felt i'd be making a huge mistake to part ways with it for uncertainty. i didnt buy it for an investment but because it is just a narly nasty sinister car. its an amazing piece of equipment, with real metal doors the clank/click shut, a truck that does the same. i wish it drove a little tighter and wasnt as 'loose' in the front, but thats fine. its 40 years old.

fyi, as it relates to porsche, i have a very nice turbo s 1997 collection that is 100% stock. i like stock cars and almost nothing else. the only non-stock porsche i have is a 97 cabriolet which has an aftermarket exhaust which came with it when i bot it from the prior owner. very nice, but too loud for me. if it werent too costly to replace, i'd swap back to the original.

you can check out some of my cars at http:\\www.trademanagellc.com
i'm a lover of the 96, 97 and 98 aircooled, old-school, curvacious sexy 993 911s and others. that era was amazing for porsche. u get in those machines, all the money (and they were expensive back then for sure) was all in the engine, suspension, brakes, transmission and wicked nice leather work. today's car are too much gadgetry and nonesense LCDs which will never be replaceable down the road. i hate todays' car though have a utility suburban which i never wash. its short lived relationship.

i'm a porsche purist and really love low low mileage, original stock cars. there is something about maintaining a stock car that is just great.

i knew about the color change and theengine. it was disclosed in the ad when i bot it. it was sort of an estate sales from an elderly doctor. i got it at a great great price, a good big chunk below the bids that i got on ebay before pulling the listing. and i'm not sure i would have ponied up the bigger money for one with matching engines.

this is a really neat car and i'm excited for the challenge and fun of maintaining it, keeping it crazy low miles. it has 89 total miles on it since the restore, new engine. and that is pretty darn neat also.
