My 68 int. door panels, the plasic chrome trim pcs . Are kind of flaking off after 38 years . Can they be bought from a vender ? Or does it have to be sent out to someone to do it ? The panels , them selves are perfect , so I don't want to go & buy new panels just for the plastic chrome pcs. I suppose I can live with it, if I have to, but it still bugs me.---Thanks ---S.

    Re: Int. Plastic Chrome

I know people have talked about sending interior plastic pieces out to have them re-chromed but can't remember who they recommended. I quickly searched the forum but didn't find the thread. I know it has been discussed before though. Anyone else remember???

You want to contact Ray Azcue owner of Quality Mustangs located in Mesquite, Texas. He did an outstanding job on all my dash pieces for my 67 Shelby. He will restore your items correctly & he is a genuine nice guy to deal with. They have a website to view their work or try (972)222-6005 to speak to him directly. I'm sure other Shelby owners have tried his services & were just as impressed with his quality like myself.
    Good luck in your restoration.

I redid mine this way on my GLHS. While not perfect or exactly like factory, it looks much better than white with flaking chrome did. I am assuming yours are much like the ones that were on my grandfather's 64 1/2 Mustang which were very similar to mine. My details weren't too deep, but if yours are, this may not work as nice.

I have an otherwise perfect set of original 68 deluxe door panels that have been lying around 20 years waiting for someone to develop a method of redoing them.

I believe there are two problems. First, the "outline trim" around the vinyl is not really plated at all but rather a mylar applique of some sort that peels off with age. I suppose if you could get the remaining plastic pieces off the door panel itself (I haven't figured out how without damaging them) you could have them plated or vacuum deposited and reinstall them...but they still wouldn't be like original, and I've never seen an ad for anyone doing this sort of "chrome mylar". Second, the trim around the woodgrain strip on the panel does appear to be plated, or more probably vacuum deposited, but I haven't figured a way of removing this trim without damaging it either. In any event, fixing one without the other seems useless. So, I have repros on the doors...and while they're good quality and look nice I'd still prefer to use my originals since the interior is otherwise completely original.

I anyone has redone originals, or had them redone, pleeeeeeeeease speak up and save the rest of us!
