I need some input on a 67 mustang fastback. This car has a small block,4spd,deluxe int.,power disc, gauge package, cougar tail lights but no other shelby parts on it. It has been wrecked somewhere before 1974, because you can see where the drivers front has been replaced so in all likelyhood the hood and the whole grille had to be replaced. Here is the fact in question under the passenger fender which has not been replaced the vin is 7R02Q21****. Which I was told only shelbys came with a Q engine code in 67..I would be glad for your input in this ..T.W. Thanks
Only GT500's had a Q code in 67. I would send the vin to Dave Mathews the 67 registrar and see if it is really a Shelby body, however I don't know what he will share with you without the Shelby vin also. Look at the leaf springs. In the front of the rear leaf springs just above and behind the front mount there maybe rubber snubs mounted on the frame rails. These were Shelby only. That first half of the vin you listed matches my 67 GT500 Ford vin exactly. Good luck researching. 1967 SHELBY REGISTRAR: DAVE MATHEWS, 1549 MOOSE HILL RD, GUILFORD, CT 06437 FAX 203-458-6917 EMAIL 67registrar@saac.com P.S. How is it registered now? What vin is listed on the title?
the passenger side shock tower would have the Shelby Vin number stamped in it unless the car was wrecked so hard it was also replaced. post a picture of the firts 5 letters of the VIN. a clever fox could easily stamp a C code car into a Q code!!! and then allude to the fact that the car may have been a Shelby but he does not know...create an interesting history with no verifiable evidence. and then hope for a Sucker! I hope you fare well in this matter.
The VIN is a good start and I too suggest the next step is confirming that the car was a Shelby with Dave. But that is not the end of the effort. 1- What to do next requires some more investigation You need to look at the car (or have someone that knows what they are doing look at the car with you) to determine what you have. Seen allot of clever fakes yes even ones that were wrecks that were altered up. A close eye to determine if the evidence supports or does not support what the conclusion is. Thinks like th eproper holes in the floor pan and the factory mounts for the rollbar are just two of maybe 3 dozen clues I look for. 2. If the car is what is left of a Shelby there is one more roadblock to getting and doing something with the car in my opinion. And that is the Shelby number with out it it will always be a conflict as to what you have. As far as I know Dave and or no one can tell you what Shelby was built from that Ford VIN. I would like to be wrong but that is my understanding of the current situation. Good luck with the detective work
This may seem like a dumb question but what is the engine code on the title and registration ? Does it match the inner fender or did someone over stamp just the inner fender ? Mark
I'm guessing that there are no ownership papers, or another possibility... well read below What might be interesting it that since the Shelby tag sounds like it is missing if there is another air car out there using it. That's where it would be interesting to see what is stamped by the by the passenger shock tower
SAAC WILL NOT give you the Shelby vin just because you have a Ford vin. They just don't do it. All ready mentioned: the roll bar mounting area, the about the rear spring rubber snubbers. Any evidence if the mounting for the under the dash gauges? How about the modified fron headlight harness for the extra highbeams? And, what about asking for a Marti report? www.martiauto.com If it is a Shelby, they'll turn you down unless you also come up with the Shelby vin. Or, maybe it's just an engineering mule car.
Good points but I believe Kevin only has the Ford VINs and he will provide information based on it alone. As for a engineering test mule Boy that's really hoping for a long shot but of course it too would have a Shelby tag and VIN by 67 (hand full of them always listed on the inventory lists Shelby/Ford kept each reporting period. And 7R02Q21**** would be a bit late for any preproduction car idea In any case the car will be a IMHO hassle but fun to find out what happens.
Does anybody have any copies of Shelby-Ford inventory lists for any reporting periods other than July,1967 or January, 1969? If so, please send me an email or PM. I am researching vehicles that were part of Shelby's inventory from 1967 - 1969 and would be very interested in knowing if any other inventory lists really exist or not. Thanks
