Hi everyone, Great web site. With all the web prowling i've done for Shelby information, i can't believe i hadn't found it sooner. I would like to here your opinions on something i'm considering before i carry on too far with the restoration of my 68 GT350, #2108. When i first started finding paperwork on my car i couldn't help but notice that it was originally ordered with a saddle interior, but somewhere along the line it was change to black. Now, the original exterior colour is black, but i thought it would have been an awsome colour combination. (Can't even tell you whether this combination was available) Anyway, what do you think? Should i put the car together as it was originally ordered or as it was delivered.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion Yes you could get that combo. Buddy of mine had a 68 rag. with saddle int. Car would be worth more with saddle int. but the bottom line is what do you like it with? Your car your money your decision.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion Don't understand the difference. It sounds like it was ordered and delivered with saddle so that would be my choice without a doubt "originally ordered with a saddle interior, but somewhere along the line it was change to black"
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion My KR is lime gold exterior w/ saddle interior. The saddle is somewhat rare.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion I think putting it back to how it came from the factory to the dealership would appease any serious collector if you ever decided to sell it or had to sell it for some reason. If you are gonna drive it for a while, do what you want and like, you can always change it down the road. I just made the decidion today on my 68, going with hubcaps (have them) and wheels (need them) and am I going to sell the 10 spokes I just spent $1k refinishing. It just looks right when it is done the way it was originally designed. My $.02
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion I think he is saying it was ordered with saddle and delivered with black. My Dad ordered his 65 Cyclone new with Palamino interior and it was delivered with black so it happens sometimes. I would say use what you like. Interior stuff is relatively cheap and could be switched if necessary. If you are selling the car soon then go with the black to eliminate any questions from a potential buyer.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion You are correct 67GT500, it was originally ordered saddle and delivered black. Leaving the interior black would be "correct" for the car, I guess i would have to lean that way as well. Thanks for your comments everyone.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion Mate, it's your car, paint it and interior it the way you want, with the combination that you like the best. Don't worry about resale, what people think, etc.
Re: Interested in hearing your opinion Hooray for the Commissioner!!!! Imagine if you owned a 1969 house with perfect condition green gold and black hi-lo shag carpet through-out.. Someday that could be valuable too. jimbo
Blueracer99 I own 68 GT350 #2103, so our cars must have been "born" around the same time. If you would like to compare notes, send me a PM Bish
IMHO -- a color change of the interior or convertible top for that matter are less resale issues than an exterior color change -- the new buyer realizes that these are easy and cheap to re-do -- I would opt for the blacl -- an all black car is mean looking -- I love verts with white tops -- you could restore your original seats in saddle and then get another set of seats (not hard to come by and re-do them in black -- complete with carpet and panels and install them in the car with no worry of spilling ice cream on the original interior on a hot summer day - store the saddle interior in plastic in a dry closet and feel good about it -- that suggestion now sounds crazy -- go black -- just my opinion -- a new buyer will want to know that it should be saddle but will be happy that it's black -- just my opinion -- again exterior color I wouldn't change -- so be happy with black --
Hi Bish, I'll be sending you a PM shortly. It would be interesting to compare information. I will be in touch. Pat
I had a White 68 GT500 with Saddle interior. I think it is a great interior and would look awesome in a Black car.
