Can I run a Holley electric pump with the Paxton, will the Holley carb take 12 lbs pressure or do I have to have staged pressure like the Indexed Carter mechanical pump on it now? It dies when I do a burn out and is hard to start like it is running out of gas, misses at the end of the 1/4, and may die as I turn into the return lane. I have 3/8" fuel lines and replaced all rubber lines and fuel filter improving the performance but not completely curing the problem.
    Thanks

Contact Craig at: www.paradisewheelsinc.com. Paradise has all the Paxton equipment and parts from the 1960's and should be able to resolve your problem. Meanwhile you might check the small vacuum hose from the top of the Carter fuel pump to the blower. If it hasB) any cracks it may cause the fuel diaphram not to push down with enough pressure at higher rpm. I had this problem on my Paxton in my 1966 GT350-6s2187. An electric pump at the fuel tank may help get the fuel up from the tank during hard acceleration.

a properly set up carter pump with the pressure assist line should deliver plenty of fuel at wide open throttle. It does sound like the boost line is not in operation. As others have noted, Craig Connley is the man to go to for any vintage Paxton problem.

Thanks or the help I'll have to contact Craig. It looks like Craig rebuilt the blower for the guy I bought the car from. The car is running real rich fuel,it flames out when I do a burn out and when I removed two plugs after they were fouled with soot. A friend said it is blowing black smoke at the start of the 1/4 mile run. I'll have to see what Craig says.

It is important to set the primary and secondary carb jets when adding a Paxton blower. Check with Craig as to the proper jet size depending on your type and brand of carb and adjustment for your car. You need to know
the cam and valve size you are using as well. I would also check to the pulley sizes for your set up.
Too rich fuel condition could be a simple adjustment by backing off the primary jets maybe a 1/4 turn since the problem starts at low rpm. However,if you go too lean, you will burn the valves. Also check to make sure you are running the right fuel pump (Carter seems to work better than Holley) and you could consider a fuel regulator. Craig should be able to get you set up correctly. Good luck and enjoy.

Talk to Craig...he is a great person to deal with..12lbs of fuel pressure sounds extremely high....
The Paxtons, are fairly simple to run, I run an Autolite C6ZF Carb, just like the Paxton installation book shows, with the stock Paxton/Carter fuel pump, with a Pertronix coil, igniter and have no issues at all...
Always fun to see the look on peoples faces, when the expect to find a plain 289 in the engine bay...

Well I put 67 primary jets and 89 secondaries like was in the paper work I got with the car as recomended by Craig and it ran worse. So we used the jet kit a fellow racer let us use and changed secondaries to 69 like they said to try no flame out on burn out and it ran to the end with out missing but I'm only running 13.09 with the super charger. I have a Holley jet kit comming so we can play with it till we get it right and hopefully top our 12.72 best ET. I also bought some 15"x8" smoothies to drill and race tubes so I can run the slicks down where they wrinkle and get max tire on the ground.
