    I saw this ad on E-bay.

    I read the ad and saw that this 66 GT350 carryover was sold at the same dealership new that my 67 GT500 was sold at. Since I live in Michigan I started wondering if this was a big performance dealership or if anyone on here knew of them. Maybe it is just a coincidence but seeing this sent me searching through my paperwork and has me ready to plan next years vacation to Albuquerque.:huh: Thanks

    A good place to look would be the advertisements that Shelby used in the
    60's car and men's magazines. See if it is listed in an old Playboy for instance. Back then though, there were only certain signed up dealers allowed to sell the cars, especially in the early days (65-67)

    Thanks for your replies. I e-mailed them twice in the last few months and they never responded. I guess I will call them this week. Is there a connection to the New Mexico govenor Richardson?

    I went to Google and put in the name of the dealer and the results came back and it looks like he could be a govenor.

    I lived in Albuquerque from 1965 to 1981 and bought my first new Shelby
    ( 1967 GT350 #1111 ) From Richardson Ford. They were an authorized
    Shelby Dealership. They were heavy into Shelbys and Cobras and
    participated in Ford's Total Performance program. They were very good
    at taking care of their customers.

    The service manager and a couple of the mechanics had a great interest
    in the Shelbys and really worked hard to take care of the Shelby owners. One mechanic in particular, loved the test drive after a tune up and was not done until it was running to his satisfaction. The service manager, gave me
    a ride in a Ford GT that was on display at Richardson for a performance promotional program. What a Blast! They sold a large number of Shelbys
    and some Cobras too. By sales volume, they were one of the biggest
    Shelby dealers. Interesting because of being somewhat isolated in the west.

    Usually, on a Saturday morning, The hauler would deliver the new Shelbys
    and a number of us Shelby guys would gather to watch them being unloaded.
    The Shelby that my friend bought, arrived on one of these mornings as we watched. Little did I know that someday I too, would own that Shelby.

    Richardson Ford sponsored various performance clinics and had one of Ford's
    top drag racers appear for a show and tell demonstration. One of my
    friends won the "door prize" : a 427 two 4 barrel aluminum intake complete
    with carbs, linkage, fuel log, the whole enchilada!

    Yes, Richardson Ford was one of the players during the Shelby years. Your
    question about them, brought back many memories of that time. Thanks!

    I guess I should have addressed my previous post to you, sorry. It would be interesting to know where in New Mexico the original owner of your Shelby lived and when it was bought. There was not many red Shelbys at the time. A scientist at Los Alamos had a red one, but I remember it as being a GT350.

    Several military guys at Kirtland Air Base had them. One of those was the medium charcoal gray; a beautiful color on a '67. Only a few came in that color. The offer stands; if you want to know more about Richardson Ford and what went on back then, give a call. Regards,

    shlby66 please pm me your phone number and I will call you at a time convenient for you. I would love to here stories of that dealership and the local scene during the 60's. I have one low quality picture of the car taken in the early 70's with the word COBRA in large letters on the side of the car in the same script as the 68 1/2 r code Mustangs drag cars had without the "jet" part of course. Also I was told the car had a 427 installed but I have no documentation of this. The front swaybar has been modified in a very unusual way to clear something in the past and it had tow bar mounts welded to the front frame. I am not home now and will post the original owners name later. Thanks Larry

    The word Cobra just like in the above picture only on the door and leave out the jet part.
    I will try to scan the old picture I have later. It is dark and low quality.
