story 1 I was close to a early wire wheel cobra with only a couple thousand miles for $10,000 plus a $5,000 finder fee. I walked away because I had to do the deal sight unseen from someone I did not trust. I told the guy I would bring $15k in a brief case if he took me to the car and then I bought it I would have the money for the car and the fee on the spot. he said no and this I had to give him the money and he would bring me the car. I told him to ....well you know. the guy was just well known for not being trust-able and was essentially poor white trash so he did not have the money and could not get it. I later came across the guy who bough the car (but not through this guy, he found it through another chain of people) and I asked him where the car was and it was in the same neighborhood as the guy I was dealing with. story 2 I got a call about a boss9 for sale that the gut needed money and was given my number as to someone who likes mustangs. if I recall the asking price was $15k and the car sounded pretty decent. I told him I would like to see the car and go from there. I did not have the money so I called my dad to go in with me and then by the time we got there he had just sold the car to someone else. story 3 was looking at a totally beat 66 Shelby for $2500. I passed on the car because it was so beat up and had a boss302 engine in it. one strange thing was that it had one door with the Rmodel type window and one was a regular mustang door, the car appeared to be a race car but I did not know the history for it and I knew all true R-models were 65's. I passed on the car because I thought it was too much of a project for me even though I wanted it. turns out it was one of the 66 cars that was turned into a racer and had a legitimate race history. it really sucks to have not enough money, space, or time. a friend of mine that has a few years on me had the right idea but he is a farm boy with some space around him. in 70 he bought the 69 boss 9 his friend bought new. he paid $2500. a year later he bought a 69 428scj Mach for $1500 and spent time drag racing both of them. along the line he bought a few spare 428 and 429 engines as well as buying lost of factory speed parts in an effort to make the cars faster. he bought a new 70 429 cobra torino as a driver car and even bought a 454ss chevelle used for $2000 to play with a bit. of course ho kept them all because he was able to just park them in the 'barn' and leave them when he got married and started into the kids thing. of course now that some years have passes he has now gone and restored the cars and will drive them for fun and yes light up the tires now and again. he doesent even seem to mind if his friends take them for a spin and 'play' a bit. oh and by the way. he has the original wheels ant tires for the boss9 and the torino because as soon as he bought the cars he went and had big wheels put on them but kept the originals. the cars now ride on repo wheels and tires for day to day and he will put the originals on for a show.....dam it sucks being me. bob
