Hi, can any out there tell me how to authenticate a 65 owners manual. I have been told that the originals had a tear out mailer for registration with Shelby American. I have one that a friend got with a 65 Mustang he bought in 1973, I don't know if they had reprints back then or if you could just buy at the Ford dealer. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks Scott
Great link, thanks for the info. I still have a question though, does the repo have a tear-out page in it or is this deleted altogether. My manual has the tear out but not as a by-fold with the front and back covers. My tear-out is the first and last inside pages which are all the same piece of paper. One side has warranty agreement and the other the page with Carrolls signature, the last page has the shelby american address in the center and resembles the address side of a post card, the reverse side of this half has the owner registration form that is to be filled out. My cover is also the duller darker blue just as in the photo. Am I describing a repo or a later edition of the original?
the tear out piece is the main item to look for. if it is there even better. if you can tell that it was there via serated edges, that is also good. let us know what you found!
Here are the pics, the covers do not fold out. The first/last page looks like a tear out with the registration form on one side and the other side looks like a post card addressed to Shelby American. The cover is the darker blue like the originals in the pics. http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j226/429scott/?action=view¤t=1164416802.pbw
while I am no Expert on 65 GT350's, I know that almost half of them came without Manuals and this apparently is not one of the missing ones in my opinion. the front and back covers should fold out. I am betting this is an early reproduction worth about $12.50 on eBay. but check around a little more as I could be wrong.
I would have to agree. The original manuals had the tear off cards on the front and back covers. If the tear offs are missing the edges of the cover will have perforation evidence. You might contact Mark Hovander with questions. He has done a lot of work (still on-going) to document every facet of the 65 GT-350.
I'm figuring Shelby must have had a lot of left overs. The 2nd owner of my 67 GT 350 wrote to Shelby back between 1968 and 1970 about his 67 not having a owners manual. They sent him a 65 owners manual for free. I still have it.
Roddster, Does it have the fold out pages in the front and back? If so, would you be interested in a trade or sell it? Texas Swede, 5S275 without original owners manual
Thanks Guys for your help and the links I guess I must have an early reprint/repo maybe even by Ford or Shelby, at least it has the correct look from the outside with the darker blue cover .
