OK, I have a '65 Clone I'm considering selling. When I bought it I had believed it may have some Shelby parts on it. This was almost 10 years ago and It's been in storage mostly since. I'm considering selling it - Body is 100% rust free southern car Just had stripped to metal and repainted. Car is very nice. When I visited the car over the weekend, I discovered a real S1MS '65 original intake, a date coded (not reproduction) S2MS Holley Lemans carb (for a '66)- Works and looks great, and what appears to be an original 67/68 Roll bar and inertia belts setup that is installed and working. I'm not sure about the block, but the driver's side head had "13" on it in the front. I have no idea what kind of motor or heads are in it - I think a 302. It has Tri-Y headers (rusty). The car has always run awesome and is scary fast. It also had a 9" rear with 3.73 gears that I changed out years ago b/c the tires rubbed on the fenders in the back. Was too wide. I didn't know any better back then and traded it for one (8" case) that fits now (likely got screwed). Who knows what kind of car that 9" was from, but I don't want to get screwed over again. Lots of surprises with this car. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the real Shelby stuff. I could keep it on the car and sell it with the stuff, but part of me wants to make sure somebody who is restoring a REAL Shelby needs it. I don't know how I'd ever remove that roll bar without replacing headliner and a bunch of other hassle! Shame to see real Shelby parts on a Clone.... Any idea of the values on the carb, intake, roll bar/belts? carb/intake pics here: http://troy.krugercentral.com/carbintakke/ rollbar here: http://troy.krugercentral.com/rollbar/ Thanks, Troy
The rollbar with retractors is going to be a pricy item. It's been a long time since I last saw a '67 belt set sell, in fact, I think it was before the Eleanor and Gone in 60 Seconds craze. IIRC the last pair of retractors and belts went for near $2k. Things have changed since then. The Gone in 60 craze; I've heard of a limited number of near-but-no-where-near repops... bottom line the value has easily gone up and up. The roll bar may not bring notquite as much, but I'd speculate the bar and belts will go for more than $4k on eBay. I haven't tried to price a small lettered intake recently, but the market is demand has pushed marginal cars out there to look for the correct parts. I'd suspect the market would support $800-$1000 (I've seen more demanded for one). The carb is a service repalcement, but should still be worth $400 or more. These are speculative, and you could use them as a reserve on eBay, but this is a tough time of year for top dollar; I could also be low balling you.
Ah, I thought the 67/68 chassis was 3" wider than the 65/66 one. I know the engine compartment is. So, the roll bar would have had to be narrowed to fit the 65/66 chassis. And, you're still leaving about 25 years of history to have left some other owners to fiddle with stuff. Maybe the intake and carb ARE original, but, you really need to post some pictures so we ALL can see the stuff.
Thanks for all your input guys. Roddster, the pics are in the links on my original post. Date code places it in service replacement land. Still - it looks pretty darn good for unrestored, I think. It also works, albeit too much carb for my car. On the back of the carb: S2MS-9510-A LIST-3259-1 982
The additional width in the engine bay was primarily gained via different shock tower shape, but the inner fender panels were also different--otherwise the width between the frame rails was the same.
An original (very nice) small letter intake sold for a little over $2000 on EB** last week, Not to say that is what it is worth. Just what it was worth last week to two people
