Hi.The '67 registrar told me that the early cars were all color but that with the other you get to choose.Same were told to me by owner of car # 1 at last years convention in LA.Do not know if anyone can verify this, but I'm changing mine to body color now.#187

Wonder what B Gaines is expecting in a concours car?

Did Dave state what he considered an "early" car?

Ah, I pretty sure that the Ford Stamping Plant provided the steel underframe for the hood. After all, it's just the stock Musng hood/deck lid underliner.

And, I'll bet the Concours judges know that the cars where built in various ways, such as painting or not painting the underside of the hood/deck.

Hi Snakepit. No,he did not tell me that. But I didn't ask, either,as I've always presumed the 200 first to be so....Saw a car in the 800's this summer, that also had steel framed hood.So I'm only finding out that nothing is certain about anything.

Ah, that "first 200" thing is predominatley about the scoop light. And thanks to ebay, all cars up to #0165 had them. Then it gets spotty as about half the cars from #0166 to # 200 had them. I believe I've seen one in the #190's without the light personally. The others I've seen on ebay. And I can see it now, "rare - built with out the scoop light under #200 car". What happened is that the SAAC "Guide" stated "200" , but nothing definitive. If they only knew at the time.

Metal framed hoods/decks where mostly used up to car #400. NOTE: I said "mostly", remember that. And, as usual with a 67, there ARE exceptions.

Now, back to the painted, unpainted underside hood/deck thread....
