Hi, Does anyone know what date they changed the rear reflectors from the sunken in to the fender to the external ones? I know it's mid-year, but after which date did the cars have the later type on? Thanks in advance for any help! John
Re: 68 question Hi Shelby Guy, Firstly, I am assuming your question is directed towards Metuchen built Mustangs or Shelby's. This may not be much help but I have found 2 conflicting timelines. Tom Corcoran & Earl Davis 19641/2 - 1973 Restoration Guide states January 68 (but no specific date), however National Parts Depot catalogue indicates surface mounted reflectors after February 15, 1968. As a side note, I have a friend of mine who had a 68 GT, Metuchen built car (build date February 19th) that had the semi-recessed markers. So it seems the January date (19641/2 - 1973 Restoration Guide) may be a bit off the mark. Maybe we could have some of the Shelby or Mustang owners with Metuchen cars built between mid-January and mid-Febraury provide some information to narrow down the timeline. Hope this gives you a bit more insite.
Re: 68 question Hello to the U.K.!! after studying these cars for many years,we know the approximate dates of the flush style reflector to be mid February 1968.The chrome externally mounted style is from this date ,until production ended. It is from a cougar, and is also used on all of the cobra jet equipped cars, this engine was also known as a mid year release, and was from April-August.Hope this helps you,Cheers!
68 Reflector Thanks Tim , that sounds good to me! The car I am restoring is a 21C car (March), should this have the external ones then? Thanks for all your help ! John
Re: 68 Reflector I would say so. I do document a lot of the running changes on pre KR 68's. The latest date I have with recessed is 2/18 and the earliest surface 2/16. The car I'm restoring now has surface and was built 2/22
Re: 68 question I personaly have seen a few KR cars with the sunken ones, the cars all looked right otherwise. Two of the cars were total restorations and I thought right away they were rebodies by someone who did now know any better.
