Hi.Took a while for me to finally land here.I hunted down what I then believed to be an early 1967 GT500-number 187,in Spring Hill Florida twenty years ago.Was going for a '65,but they were not easy to locate from Norway As you can see,I have the slanted grill,but mine are two pieces.Do have the steel reinforced hood and trunk,also the roll bar with additional brace to inner wheel well.But also,as I've discovered the wrong type upper scoop lights,smoothe vinyl seats that might prove to be wrong according to Marti.Might say that you learn as you live.Do not have that much time,though,as I do not plan to restore it after this second time.Changed the color in '91,from red to Lime.Now I strive to get it as close to original as possible. I find the discussions here very interresting and there's certainly much knowledge here about the cars we like. Freddy
Re: At last... Smooth seats: The "Comfort weave" upholstery wasn't available to the plant until the middle of December 1966, so, you are very likely OK there. Check the build date on your Marti report. It adds to the flavor of the 67 production year. Scoop lights: these are available (correct lenses) all over the U.S. in truck stops. DO NOT pay more than $20.00 plus shipping on ebay. They where installed two different ways: 1) with the chrome ring of the base showing through the fiberglass. You would have to take care when sanding/priming/painting these. You see photos of these in the 1967 car magazines. Well gee, how many different early cars would have been in the press pool? 2)with the mounting ring primed and painted over. My car, #0036 has these. Most of the other early 67's I've seen are done this way too. OK, it's a 67, there ARE variations.... Two piece grill: The way early cars are one piece, somewhere near car number 100, (+ - 20 car I believe) the production crew decided it was easier to install this as 2 pieces. Re: At last... I'm amazed of not even heard of this before,might be because I've never asked anyone.My car were built 12/09/66.The reason I began searching the lights,were some upper scoops offered at e-bay with holes for the lenses. The ones I have are not going through the scoops.

If I can add to the scoop light discussion, I have been involved with my early '67 car since the mid 70's, and even at that time it had Mopar running lights (the little round ones with the chrome trim) mounted in the upper scoops. I've asked Bob Perkins about it (I wish I would have kept his reply letter) and he told me to leave them in there, that there's a very good chance they were a "test" light installed from new. He also added that it would add to the uniqueness of these hand built cars. Just adding to the confusion.....Mark

It seems to me that SA did some changes over this year.As for the tail light lenses,mine are different from some that I have seen on ebay.Guess the same occurred with the steering wheel?No black plastic where the spokes meet the wood-have been told mine are original despite that.All this just makes it more exciting,at least as I see it. Have only made it to three SAAC conventions over the years.Might be better to go to some smaller shows?Best vacations I can get,driving around in your beautiful country.Hired a Cobra in Payson,AZ.Hot as can be,but the places I visited there were stunning.Have relatives in LA,so I guess it has been too much to the same place.One highlight must be watching the spaceshuttle take off!That thing made some noice,even though we had to stay quite some distance away. Also collecting Shelby stuff and model cars,certainly need the space... Well,at least something about me,eventually.
I have a 68 GT500 that has different stickers on the door seal, the drivers side says Shelby American ans the passanger side says Shelby Automotive, and the air scoops are different from one side to the other. I have been told that when Shelby ran out of stuff thay used 67 stuff or stuff from a different supplier. Just make it a little different.
Yep, my early 67 Gt 350 had the 66 Shelby emblems on the sill plates. I have the original sill plates but I did buy new ones back when you could get them at the dealer. I put new 66 emblems on those too to keep it "as built".
My 69 GT350 built on April 25th had 68 Shelby grill emblems when I got it but I put the correct one on it, I got tired of having to explain that, thats the way it came from Ford at shows.
I have pointed out to Cobreen that, I have seen #0189 at the Volo Auto Museum show in 2005. It did not have scoop lights either. Beware, the information in the Shelby American Guide stated "first 200 cars". They did not say that this was an absolute. After car #0165, the installation of the scoop lights was spotty, up to car #200. Not all cars between #0165 and #0200 got the scoop light.
AO Smith made their fiberglass inhouse but had different molds and more times than not batches got intermixed. The different scoop combo happened a lot. Here's one for you, 68 KR, 2 blackwall Goodyears one side, 2 white letter Speedways on the other. Funny thing is owner didn't notice until the first time he replaced tires. Tim
Want to thank all of you for the help.I'm probably going to delete the lights,as installing correct ones requires too much modifying on the scoop.Have read that SA did some of the "use what we have",even that some Cobra's got 390 installed.I'm pleased that I got the history of the car owners all the way back to june 1968.Were told that DMV deleted files after seven years,so I had good luck.Adding some photos of correct lights and incorrect ones.
