Don't take this the wrong way, but you are probably not ready. Be afraid, very afraid. You need to network a lot more or you will get taken to the cleaners. You might want to make a big pile of cash easy accesible as well. You need to educate yourself. If your buddy has a car you need to start hanging with him and going to shows to meet people.

There is no one good place to look. There is allot of competition out there as you have likely found out. Look at every newspaper (most major ones have web access) every show you can get to, every Cars Wanted free ad site you can visit. Auctions are always a possibility but you have to know what you are looking at. I do not care for a moment what the auction house states, writes in the ads or promises you. Auctions are a good place (at times) to sell good cars and a even better place for dumping bad ones IMHO.

Another option would be one of the people or services that locate and inspect cars for people. Make sure when choosing such you ask for references and post some questions about the business on a number of forums.

Once you find a car. PAY someone that knows as much as possible about the year you are looking at. If you find the right person it will be a bargin no matter what it cost (within reason of course) They can save you allot both by confirming the car or telling you to keep looking.

With the current market there are few bargins only decent buys (in general) IMHO. No one can tell you if they will be cheaper next year or not.

In closing the other hard fast rule is to buy the best car you can afford. Have realistic expectations of the car you are looking for and how you will use it.

    Good luck with your hunt

StereoFreak, Why don't you join SAAC? The bi-monthly newsletter usually
has a number of cars available for sale. There were several KR's for sale in the last one. You have to align yourself with the people who are into these cars as a lot of them are sold by word of mouth from/to SAAC members.

I am going to be selling my 1968 GT500 KR Convertible later this spring. I have three Shelby's and 2 garage spaces. I am in the middle of restoring my 1967 GT500 and I have decided to part with my 68KR. It's a great car with 68K original miles and all the original interior and new outside paint. Pictures of the car from years past can be seen here in the Nevada SAAC site in the picture registry.

NVSAAC - Shelby Picture Registry - Shelby American Automobile Club - Nevada Region

Jim Cowles of Shelby Parts and Restoration for Shelby Mustangs, Mustangs, Cobras and Boss Mustangs has helped me find some of the original parts I needed for the KR. It had a couple repops I replaced with originals. I actually just found 4 original hub caps still in the box. More details on the car upon request.

The car is currently with Mike Mulcahy of Mulcahy Motorsports in Warrenville, Illinois. Mike Mulcahy Motorsports - In The Spirit of the Sport. Mike went and personally looked at the car for me before I bought it and gave me the thumbs up for purchase.

Mike is well known and respected in the Shelby world. He has done 20+ Shelby restorations and owns many Shelby's himself including a red 1968 KR convert.

If you or anyone is interested, drop me an email at mike.herman@gmail.com.

    Regards,

    Mike
