Apparently there is a man from New York that has vowed to bid on all 15 Shelbys that are rolling through the auction in Scottsdale this week. The first one came up last night a 68 GT 500. It was a nice car 60k original miles, automatic, sunlit gold -- it's my understanding that they didn't make kr's in sunlit gold -- this was a non-kr but was highly optioned.

The New York bidder is doing all his bidding by phone. The car was slowing down at 150 and he hit it for 175 and everyone went away. My guess is that he may buy them all this year -- and he may also help drive the prices up a bit. If sellers see that he is willing to overpay a bit they may shill him up. Wall street had a banner year with reports of bonuses being insanely high. My vision of this guy has him sitting on a huge pile of Wall Street Bonus money that he wants to use to corner Barrett's Shelby market.

You may see your first 400k Shelby at Barrett this year. 400k for a non cobra that is. It's exciting -- a bit insane and perhaps might make us all think our cars are worth more than they are but it's exciting for the hobby.

Just thought I'd point out what's going on in the desert and Speedvision is doing much more coverage this year than last. cheers guys -- any comments -- john

Congrats. to the owner of the gold Shelby, on B.J. last night. I know that one auction does not set prices, but it does raise the bar to a degree. I personally do not like to see these prices rise this fast, because now I've got to listen to how much there bringing & all that every time I go to a cruise night. Maybe thats why I don't see them around like I use to.---S.

Neel, I was going to post the same thing. I do remember a guy last year named "Alex" who was wearing Ferrari gear and was buying for some museum. He was insanely over-bidding on some stuff but did win a few cars.

If I were Alex the last thing I would do is let everyone know that I plan on bidding on every Shelby and have the Speed Channel cameras focused in on the phone that I am on the other end of.

However, I do think you will see some people buying a "lot" of Shelby's as pure investment. It's like a company that only issued so many shares (cars in this case) and the demand for them keeps increasing. If you are holding several shares (cars) you probably are going to do ok in the long run due to a limited supply and increased demand.

Now, from a hobbyist standpoint I am sure some have mixed emotions about the "business" side of it. I think the 2007 Shelby's have peaked people's interest in the original cars more than we realize. All in all the "sport" is increasing in popularity and you will start to get all types of collectors.

I already know of 2 67 GT500's that have sold for $400k in private sales this year. Ebay is no indicator of the market, that is for sure. In my opinion the majority of the cars you see on Ebay are OK cars but have something wrong with them. No docs, new metal, missing parts etc.. Ebay is a great tool for generating multiple bids due to it's public popularity. The real gems are exchanging hands in the background.

    Mike

The value of a car is only as high as someone is willing to pay. This guy may buy up all 15 Shelby's BUT that does not mean they are worth what he is paying. It could all back fire on him and he ends up throwing away most of his money on a dream of cornoring the market on Shelby's. With major corporate bonuses and Loto and Power Ball makeing many people millionaires yearly, who knows what will happen, most millionaires have more money then brains. Another idea to think about....... it would also be a great way to lounder money, buy the Shelby's at Scotts Dale then sell them at Palm Beach and POW..... your money is now clean..........I know, I watch to much TV.

If you think about it, 15x $250k is only $3.75m. I would bet in 7-8 years they are worth $7-10m.

The Red one belonged to Sammy Hargar......... It also came with a case of his "Cabo-Wabo" Tiquila (sp). It was 65% Celeberity Value. It was more of a Resto-Moded Shelby.

Another member of Van Halen sold his 1969 Shelby there too. It went either just before or soon after Sammy's. It was also Red.

Sammy Hagar's red with black stirpped 67 GT500 went for $270,000. The one for over $400,000 was a correct restoration. Sammy Hagar's car was, I believe, an original blue car and had a 427 tunnel port motor installed.

"most millionaires have more money then brains"

That is one of the most brainless statements I have ever seen!! I am flying to Arizona in the morning, and will spend the next 4 days in Muscle Car Mecca, with one of my best Muscle Car Era college buddies. 40 years ago we were beer drinking college buddies, 38 years ago we spent Christmas in Vietnam, we then finished college and then worked our asses off for the next 35 years, so we could reunite and view the cars we only dreamed of as teenagers. We are too smart to purchase a BJ car at top dollar, but smart enough to be able to purchase whatever we choose. We love the cars, the general atmosphere...and 90%++ of the people, nearly all who have earned their way to Scottsdale. There are exceptions to nearly all circumstances....but make book on this.....you pay the price, you climb that hill, and you call those people moneyed and brainless? I think not!! Try it for yourself, and I wish you well!

I agree with you that the prices of cars that adorn the Shelby name will grow, and with people in the world that throw money at them like this guy the prices are sure to keep climbing. I have to say, I don't know if its so much this guy trying to get all of the Shelby's this year that's the sole contributor to the growing price tag. Last year at Barrett Jackson, I saw a 1967 gt500 that was far from original condition; ( different rear end, transmission, paint, and even motor) fetch 50-75 thousand dollars more that an original 67 gt500. I think some of the issue at hand is people with lots and lots of money will just throw it at things just for the rush of winning it, not the historical preservation and love of the car... anyhow as the years tick away, their value will grow greater and greater; cars get crashed, rare barnyard finds grow fewer and fewer, and the mystic of the Shelby name becomes immortal.

I'm boycotting, as usual, this sort of was fun to watch, til Fox/SPEED overhyped, and now I just can't stand watching the event, nor that Jackson guy just raking in the dough from the idiots who are so in love with seeing themselves getting their drink on, standing on the stage, on TV overpaying. I just don't have any ambition. Local guy from here is selling his Cuda restomod, he's got $1.2mil into it, was featured at SEMA a couple years ago, Orange/Black. Wonder how much he'll recover of that expense. I watched him drive it in the parking lot at Road Atlanta, had to make a 90 degree turn, took about 7 attempts forward/back/forward/back/etc as the car has zero turning radius! I had a good laugh watching that. Oh, well, can't expect a perfect car for $1.2mil!!:laf:

    Hey guys,
I heard the 400K red 67 Shelby was not a real red '9' car. Was not disclosed at the auction or in the paperwork. He demanded his money back and the cash was returned. It was a dealer car, the dealer resold it for 325K shortly there after....I waiting for a real red car to go through the blocks at Barrett.
    Im glade I kept myne..# 2408..
There are only 37 4-speeds and 30 Automatics made in Candy Apple red,.. total of = 67(nice number) ..,,41 with black interiors..Makes you wounder how many are left. I have seen 1 sell on ebay in 8 years..Compare this to 600 Lime green cars made..The most rare is Black...only 3 made...

    Cevon...

    Dear Millionaires:

When you get home from BJ without your Shelbys, please send me an email......GT350H #6S814 can be had for $149,999 cash.

With 3 in college, I can probably be pursuaded to part with it!

Another point to think about...... the higher the price goes..... the harder it will be to sell because more and more people wont be able to afford to buy them. With the rising price of the Shelby's, will the accurate CLONES start fetching $100,000.00 price tags now?
