Are there any date codes or special numbers on a T-10 for a 1966 gt350? Or is any T-10 for a mustang acceptable. Also, why did Shelby go from aluminum T-10's to iron ones? TIA, Ed
I have a late car that has a cast iron T 10. I asked the same question of Howard Pardee his answer was that the majority of 66's had the aluminum T 10, the later cars had the cast iron or were mixed. There were also two close ratios the 2.36 or M that was in the 65's, and the 2.36 J or L that was in later cars. The difference between the two close ratios was 2nd and 3rd gearing. I understand that the M ratio was mostly Cobras and 65's. The tags for T 10 Mustangs 1965- HEK-R, HEK-V, HEK-M, 1966 HEK-AD. This is what my research has shown and if not correct maybe someone on the forum will correct me.
Here is a pic of the T-10M that was in my '66 (SFM6S1507). It was a "mix", aluminum case with a cast iron tail housing. I no longer have the car or tranny. When I had the car I sold the trans for $2,500.00 believe it or not! Installed 5-speed.
