65 gt350 clone paint stripes

    my 65 a code is ready for the shelby white and le mans blue stripe. i want to give my paint shop the correct process and dimensions. the car has been high build and blocked sanded. the trunk, hood, fenders and valances are off. what is the correct process to do the painting. white them blue stripe or the other way. also since it is apart when would you assemble to do the stripes or do them off and assemble? i know this may sound simple and i should know but this is the first time doing this and want it right.
    thanks you in advance for your inputs. my painter will be happy anyway.

    There are different ways to do them. Your painter should have a preference. The factory or dealer would have put them on top of the original paint. Thus you would have a edge. You could paint the stripe on, mask off, paint white then shoot clear and eliminate the edge since in would be buried in the clear. Really depends on what you are looking for. When I did mine I assembled the car and lined up all the panels. Set my centre line and masked out the stripe then disassembled and painted the stripe which allowed me to roll the stripe around all the edges. More work but that is the way I wanted them to turn out. Talk to your painter. Just take your time laying them out.

    ORDER OF OPERATIONS (as per Shelby American)
    1. Remove gas cap and windshield wiper blades.
    2. Lay out roof area.
    3. Lay out trunk-to-bumper area.
    4. Lay out rear bumper-to-valance.
    5. Lay out hood and cowl area-to-bumper.
    6. Lay out front bumper-to-valance.
    7. Mask car, complete
    8. Paint, complete
    9. Remove masking and clean
    10. Install gas cap and wiper blades.
    *
    PAINT (as per Shelby American)
    * R-M Ditzler Dupont
    1964 Ford Guardsman Blue A-1630 12832 4483
    Chevrolet Commercial White 1347-E 2185 817

    Don't know why chevy white is listed when Ford Wimbilton White was used.

    So, Shelby didn't remove the bumpers? I thought the stripes always continued behind the bumpers which would mean they had to be removed. Am I wrong?

    thanks DJR for the input. as for removal of the bumpers i of course have mine off and will do behind them, it only makes sense. enjoy your rides gentlemen.

    Shelby did on many but dealers did not (normally) The instuctions posted are from a memo that went out to dealers. for the 66 Shelbys

    Chevrolet Commercial White Paint "IS" the "Correct" paint for white stripes on

    Cobras and Shelbys that are not white in color. Reason: It is a bright white;

    unlike Wimbledon white which is more of a cream color. Shelby wanted his

    cars to stand out and thats why Chevrolet Commercial White was "SPECIFIED"

    and "USED".

    I have just read through this post again,
    ....Remember if your car is a 65 and it is white with blue stripes
    the white is wembledon white (a ford color) and the stripes are guardsman blue (also a ford color).
    ....The rocker stripes are done with paint, and they are in a different location and they are a different size than the tape stripes on a 66. The GT 350 logo on the rocker (tape) is also bigger (than 66).
