Well another Shelby owner bought a fake ash tray on E-slay the other week. I got nailed a few years ago when I was restoring my car and had the console put away. I bought to upgrade and when I finally compared them found out I was had by a long time parts seller who I had done business with for 15 years. Well he lost a customer for life for a 100 ash tray. Anyways this same bogus style ash tray which I haven't traced its origins to yet keeps biting people. A fellow owner thinks I should post some side by side pics so those who don't know the difference can see it. If anyone here wants to see them then I'll repost them on this thread. What do you people think? Gary

Sorry about the delays here are the trays side by side. Real one on the left.

Notice that the lid handles are different and do not interchange from one to the other. The fake handle I tried to use on my real tray and doesn't fit. The lid tops are different on the curvature. Its almost impossible to see but when you try to interchange them it is noticeable. My real ashtray is actually lower than the pics becaused 20 years ago I tried sandblasting the rust out of the bottom and "popped the metal" out some. That is why I have been seaching for another tray.

Disregard the lid stop on my real on on the left. When I detailed out the inside after damaging it I had to cut the rivit holding the stop and while taking these pics I "moved it" since it is just held in against the indention seen on the front. Indentions are different from each. Also notice the spring clip. It comes out rounded on the real left tray and is punched out on a straight angle on the fake. Also notice the lid where the spring catches. they are totally different.

OK guys the big difference is the light holes. As far as I am concerned, no holes, no real. Check every manual and you will see wiring and a ashtray light so if there are no holes for a light IT AIN'T CORRECT! disregard the area around the rivit, its dura glass! The stop catch -square semi punch out- are different between the 2.Can you see the dirrence in the handles in this shot? Gary
