Getting ready this weekend to start putting my steering box and control valve back on. Anyone have any tips on getting this done right the first time? (wheels straight, steering gear at midpoint, control valve 18 turns onto center link, etc)... My pitman arm is off...
I was able to find one of the control valve hoses new, but am still looking for all the others. Anyone have a source for these that aren't garbage? Bob

    Bob,
Its pretty straightforward. The shop manual gives the spec for valve positioning on centerlink. Something like 4.87 in center of tie rod end hole to center of valve stud. Do not grease valve fitting as Randy does it and to much grease can mess it up. One thing I do that makes it a lot easier is assemble the center link, ram, valve and all the hoses on the bench and then lift the whole thing up into the car preassembled. Much easier than trying to start all those hose threads underneath.

Tim, Thanks for the info. I did find the info on the control valve as far as positioning. What about the drift pin though? The new collar on my CV does not appear to have a hole drilled for the pin.
The center link and everything is still on the car. Everything but the SB and CV were in good shape mechanically, so I just cleaned up a few things. I do have the car up on 4 jackstands so there is a good bit of room underneath, but would certainly be much easier on the bench.

The hole for the pin is in the centerlink. There is no hole in the valve, it goes through the slot and puts the valve in proper orientation.
