1965 GT350 R what size axles?

    were they 28 or 31 spline? Im looking to be correct here. putting the 3.89's in my R clone. Thanks -Roger

    They were 28 spline.
    What kind of budget do you have for this project you are making?

    Since you are "not worried about a budget". You ought to use the stronger 31 spline axles, or go full race to custom 35 spline ones - hardened.

    I can tell you this, Concous judgees ain't going to pull an axle to look. Besides, if this is a clone, how are you going to enter a SAAC or MCA Concours??

    If you are building a clone and you are worried about resale value then you should put in 31 spline axles and tell the buyer that you did.

    IMO 31 spline axles add more to the value than "correct" 28 spline axles. Most people that buy clones want to run them hard and they want the beefier stuff.

    Point well taken. Thanks. I think i may do the 31 splines, i do tend to beat on the car a bit, and dont want it to break.....especially with the locker. Thanks -Roger

    remember the locker will need to be 31 spline as well..

    haha, no i havent bought the locker yet. I cantfind a noisy one..... all this quiet drive crap....knowwhere i can find a noisy unit?

    Didn't all the 289 Hipo's have 9" 31 spline axles as OEM?

    No,
    31 spline axles didn't show up on mustangs until a few years later. The Locker in my clone (28 spline) is from a factory Group II sedan (66). If anybody was using 31 spline stuff they surely would have.

    I have a 60's vintage Detroit Locker; 28 spline still in the original box, coated
    in cosmoline and wrapped in a plastic covering. They indeed, are a little
    on the noisy side.

    I have gotten used to that sound when it happens. I don't have that..
    WHAT WAS THAT!! feeling anymore . I love the way they "hook up" though.
