I have ordered a black CSX and was thinking strongly of getting my pipes powercoated that shiney silver. However, I see so many cars withthe black pipes? Was that the orignal way the car came back in the 60's? would my car look more authentic if i got the black pipes with the black car? Conrad CSX4819
Sidepipes, original only on 427 Comp and S/C models, were shipped from SA in either black or white. They were simply sprayed with VHT Hi Temp paint. There was no original 'shiny silver' pipes. ...but you can do what you feel will look good on your car. Black car-pipes-rollbar looks very mean.... this is CSX4206...
no problem.... That is not my car.. I just used it as an example of 'triple-black' Right now, my car is under construction, hopefully this year for completion (it's been a long process ) I will have black roll bar and pipes. The car will be done first in bare alum...and then it will be painted a Guardsman blue...no stripes.
Here's CSX4252. Black, Wimbledon White stripes, white pipes. They have a Jet Hot-style coating and then painted with VHT aerosol. The white stays white and hasn't cracked or discolored. The only change since this picture was taken is that the Goodyear tires now have white painted letters.
Stephens, Thanks for that great photo. Your car looks awsome. Can you tell me what kind og engine and transmission you have? carb? who built it? thanks Conrad CSX4819
Thanks, Conrad. I couldn't be more happy with my Cobra. CSX4252 is an aluminum-bodied car and has a New/Old Stock 427 side-oiler, balanced and blueprinted with Shelby aluminum heads, solid lifters, and a set of Weber 48IDA carburetors. The transmission is a 4-speed Top Loader and I'm running 3.31 gears. It's another HRE car completed by Billy Andrews and his workmanship is outstanding.
Stephens, Thanks for the info. Bill has ordered a Shelby all aluminum engine for me with an 850 Holley. he also has ordered me a Tremac600s 5 speed transmission. It is all of the wonderful things i hear about Bill from you guys that keeps me hanging in there and excited about my project. Bill told me he expects a rigid build schedule from Shelby by the middle of March on all the 4700 series cars. He is expecting my car CSX4819 by July? Hope he right, i would love to get a few weeks of driving in before i have to put her to sleep for the winter. Conrad
That sounds great, Conrad. I may run into you (or your Cobra) at HRE in the spring. I have to bring my car back to Billy for the 1000 mile service. Good luck on the project. I know the 4700 series cars have been keeping a lot of people awake at night!
