289 Hipo Head Torque Settings

    Hello Everyone

    What torque settings for the head bolts is recommended? Does 65 pound sound right.

    Hi Rohan, according to the 66 Shop Manual the torque settings are the same for all 289 engines:

    Step 1.......50 lbs.
    Step 2.......60 lbs.
    Step 3.......65-70 lbs.

    the specs differ with different head gasket manufacturers. To be safe, follow the directions that come with the head gasket.
