289 Mystery Camshaft Kit I have a camshaft kit I am trying to identify the application for. It is in an old “CS SHELBY FBK-1255-C CAMSHAFT KIT” labeled box. It is a camshaft and lifters kit for a 289. The camshaft itself is marked “SK8821 HC7”. I have various Shelby after-market catalogs between 1965 (Shelby American) and 1971 (Autosports) that offer various shafts and kits for 289s but I can not find reference to either the FBK-1255-C or SK8821 numbers in the catalogs or dealer price lists. The lifters appear to be standard mechanical ones like used in HP289 production engines. With the shaft being marked with a “sketch” (i.e. SK) engineering number it was probably not a high volume sales item or it might have a regular Ford style engineering number like the various C6FE and C7FE prefix parts for the Group II and GT40 engines. Does anybody have any reference material that identifies the application for this kit? Thanks.
I am no whizz on shelby part numbers. There is the "Le Mans" cam C7FE (6250) A that was sold as a kit with lifters I have one in my clone.. It is in my opinion the "best sounding cam" for a 289.. (which is already a great sounding motor) . It seems odd that you mention 1970's dates with the literature?? They would have stopped calling anything a 289.. it seems it would say for a 302.. (also 289 260 ect). anyway if it is a Le Mans cam use it. They are great and they even kind of idle (sort of) Measure it. Somebody will have the specs for whatever it is if it is a Ford part. jimbo
If anyone is interested in getting a 289 Lemans cam, I had new one ground last year (via Glazier's Mustang) for my 66 GT350H motor rebuild.
