My father purchased a 1969 Grabber Blue w/white interior GT500. It was equipped with an automatic trans, A/C, 8-Track and a fold down rear seat. We lived in Middlesex, NJ and bought it at a nearby Ford dealership. My parents owned the car for a short time, less than a year, and traded it in on a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 convertible. I was 8 years old at the time and still dream about that car. I would love to know what happened to it and would love to see it again. If anyone has any ideas on how I might locate the car I would be interested in listening to them.

Wierd stuff happens. It would be helpful to know the dealer name. Because that will be mentioned in the Marti report. So, some owner of a grabber blue, 69 GT 500 might be looking for the first owner. And his Marti report will mention the dealer it was sold at.

And, weird stuff happens. Some fellow a couple of years ahead of me in high school, bought a used 69 Grabber blue Gt 500. Had it about a year or 2. Last time I saw the car (ah, more than 30 years ago) it was in the apartment driveway (in Calumet City IL) with 2 flat tires. One day it just disappeared. Was it the same car? I couldn't tell you. They made more than 1 Grabber blue 69 GT 500.

Roddster I was too young to remember the dealership's name but I might remember it if I heard it again. Could any Ford dealership sell Shelby's or did they have to be a special performance dealer? I remember the dealership that my parents bought the car from had a 1970 Competition Yellow Boss 302 in the showroom as well as a Jade Green 1969 or '70 Shelby convertible. I think they had a black 1969 Mach 1 in the shworoom too.
The salesman took me, my brother and my Dad for a test drive in the owner's 1968 Shelby GT500 convertible.
I wish I could think of the dealership's name; I know that would help.

I am also looking for the 67 gt500 my dad owned. What I have done so far is looked up my Fathers name in the owners section of the Shelby Registry which gave me the actual car number (450). I then contacted the 67 register at SAAC but no luck there because no one has updated the info on that car since my father owned it in 67. Maybe you will have better luck.

Where would I find the Shelby Registry for me to look up my father's name? That might be a great place for me to start, thanks.

Send your dad's name to me at rtremb@juno.com I'll loook it up to see if it is in there. But, unless some other owner knew your dad owned the car, it might not be in the registry as the information in there is a compilization of what SAAC knows (dates, warranty, dealer delivered to) and histirical stuff following owners have turned in (shows, event wins, entries, sales, wrecks, ets)

Well, unfortunatly none of the names he emailed me was listed. So, now he'll need to figure out what the dealership name was. That would be a start.

And, this is what prompted me to start the post about, as an owner, reporting who you sold the car to. Just 1 more layer of owner name control. Don't leave it to the buyer to report this stuff to SAAC.

Last year I had some correspondence with Vincent Liska from the SAAC. he, apparently, is in charge of documenting the '69-'70 Shelbys for the SAAC. He thinks that my Dad's car was purchased from Jack Gibbon's Ford and he gave me a VIN number that fit my Dad's cars description and he had no previous or current owner information.
He had suggested I do a title search using that VIN but, I am concerned that I might be breaking a law by doing a title search on a car I don't own. Are there privacy laws or something that I might be breaking? I'd love to do the title search but don't want to get in trouble by doing so. What do you think?

I know of two in Jersey, though one was just sold recently.

If the VIN is not current in the registry, it's a long search.

Here are the two Jersey cars two years ago, but both Black interior...

That one used to belong to Ed Shaw I beleive. I have seen that car in person and it definately is not my Dad's old car. Can I get in trouble for running a title search? I have a VIN # that was provided by Vincent Liska of the SAAC but I don't want to get fined or anything like that.

Ed still happily owns his! The one next door used to be owned by Joe Dina, sold two years ago.

I'm not sure about the search legality...
