Hi folks, Pardon my intrusion on your site, I am but a humble owner of a regular 69' Mustang convertible and can only one day hope to be a proud owner of a Shelby but this is all I can afford for now. I should preface by saying I AM NOT TRYING TO BUILD A CLONE. I think while it's an homage it's wrong and I was delighted to recently learn that Mr. Shelby will be stopping just anyone from buying his badges and parts in the future unless ownership of a real Shelby can be proven. I have nothing but the highest respest for the man and everything he has done for the entire Mustang community, I even use his Chilli mix all the time. With that said, let me get to my question with just a brief history on me. As said I am the owner of a 69' Mustang convertible. It was a beautiful clean truly rust free and almost completely original California car that still only has a documented 51,000 miles on the odometer. It was even featured in an issue of Hemmings Mustang Market and Tech Guide #8 May/June 2003 and won several awards. I was a proud caretaker of this piece of history and treated it as such. 2 years ago this October a young kid in his POS 91' Civic chose to run a red light doing 65 in a 30 and T-boned me totalling my car. Knowing it would now never again be original I simply could not bare the thought of it being parted out then set to pasture and covered in weeds. I had it very well insured thankfully so I bought it back and after 8 months of physical therapy I started restoring it. As I said, I am not building a clone but because it will never be original again and many parts for my model are not available in repro I am now moddifying it. Such mods have included a Shelby rear deck lid which I have custom glassed to fit the stock tail panel and tail lights and I also added the side scoops. The only other styling cue I would really like to add is the Shelby roll bar with interior side panels. This brings me to my question at last. Because I am also putting an electric window kit in I would like to modify that large circular opening on the sides with some speakers since there really is no good place to put them in a convertible. This unit is rather pricey and I can't afford to buy one just to find out that nothing will fit so if someone could be so kind as to tell me how wide the diameter of this opening is as well as how deep, I can begin my search for speakers. Also, I have planned to eventually purchase the kit from Tony Branda unless anyone can recommend a better supplier. I appologize for being so long winded but I admire you lucky folks greatly and wanted to be completely honest with you of my intentions. Here is a link to where I have been documenting my restoration thus far and I have many more pics that need to be added as I am weeks away from finally painting it and can hopefully enjoy a long missed cruise before the New England winter sets in. http://www.1969stang.com/gallery/Car-and-tech-pics Thanks in advance, Pak.
Re: I need some answers form a 69/70 Shelby Convertible owner I'm working on 69 shelby tail light panel for my coupe. Do you have pics?
Re: I need some answers form a 69/70 Shelby Convertible owner Wow, this is an old thread. The link I originally posted to my restoration (also in my sig) has tons of pics through out the whole build. I did not do the Shelby tail panel though, I custom glassed it to fit the stock Mustang panel
