If you're referring to that S code possible prototype, then nobody is going to be an expert on that probably. It may still have a 390 and then the question would be if 390s had VINs stamped in 1969. Some prototypes were also powerplant test mules to try new stuff. It may now have something unusual from the factory or a something owner swapped.

There was a thread on this site recently about 428 number locations on 68 cars. Seems some were stamped on the back of the heads or intake. A expert might chime in with clues to look for to determine if you have a 390 or 428 in the car now.

If its a 69 Shelby the VIN (or partical) would be on the drivers side rear of the block and on the trans.

If this is the "pilot car" referenced in the other post then all bets are off as these cars were not expected to make it into the hands of the public and the thief and warranty problems would not be anticipated IMHO

As an observation it is always interesting how people have "adjusted" to the internet. A few years back it would have taken months to get any question posted here answered. Now (not picking on you at all) many expect quick responses to what has taken years to obtain and develop.

Hope everyone will consider this when thinking of supporting this and other sites. They are often free for the owners and developers. ;)

As for the 69 Shelby prototypes it's hard to tell what Ford used this car for, some prototypes were used to test things like rear disk brakes and other were used for things like fiberglass fit and things like that. There is one with a Cougar dash in it, so if you could find out what your car was used for, would go a long way in tracking the cars history. It's strange that the car is a S code 390 car, and not a 48# car. You have some Shelby history there, good luck.

For 69-70 Shelby's partial vin on back of Block in small not straight line. Just under the intake on drivers side.

well guys i thought i would let you know
that it has been confirmed this car is a specail car
yes it is a shelby and from what the shelby register quoted
that it is the first shelby prototype , some history
The car was donated to a vocational school for learning about brake
Rebuild and carb rebuilds. As time went by the technology was such that
There was no longer carbs (fuel injection) and the car was sold.
it has landed in my hands and wil stay with me forever ,
where do i go from here for some history .... any hints

Hi all on this thread. This is an interesting car,as are all pilot plant builds.Have you had any luck with Kevin Marti ? The only thing to do next is take it apart and check out what is revealed on closer inspection. Most Ford experimental stuff will have an x as part of the casting number...This car may have been built to use for emission testing or durability testing, what kind of miles are showing on the odometer?Does it have any additional holes drilled in it?At the all Ford event in carlisle there was a 69 with a cougar dash and it was 351 cleveland powered, another experimental was a boss 429 with a shelby front end,and a cougar dash ,and yet another 69 had a G code boss 302,so there were several different projects that ended up with a public owner.Maybe if you posted pictures we may notice something..Good luck with it!

Would start running down the tech school and the instructors (as some may have passed one - so quickly) They may have taken pictures for the school's newspaper to recognize the delivery of the vehicle

You don't mention which car it is (quess I could look it up in the registry) I do have access to a couple of the inventory lists from 69 ... wonder if your car is listed there

    From: "Vincent M. Liska" <vinman@infionline.net>
    > V.i.n plats look good and "unusual" door data plate I like.

    > So at this point you can say that "I said this is the first prototype
    > shelby"

have given Vincent all the casting numbers down to the glass & all match
the car is not in the registry but will be shortly , the miles on the car 54000,
colour candy apple red , in need of geniune wheels and rubber only ......
this car is a true surviver and just great to hear it when you start it up ,
sounds like no other shelby i have heard , very strong motor .....very strong.
has been stored for many years only to be started 2 daysago ..wow ....

it is something most of us shelby guys dream off and speek about but your lost for words when you actually hold something like this in your hands,
looks like you are running but you are only walking ......

well were do you go from here ... anyone out there , any pointers .
