Hi All, We're going to be shipping our car, and Intercity doesn't come this far. Has anyone worked with Horseless Carriage? Who else do you recommend? Thanks,
Surprised that Intercity does not come up that far these days as they have delivered and picked up in Rochester for me in the past. Alternates that I have had positive experiences with are as follows (in no particular order): Admiralty Transport-800-250-6112 Reliable Auto Transport-800-833-7411 Classic Auto Shippers-800-784-7951 Passport Transport-800-325-4267 VIP Transport-888-428-5847 Horseless Carriage-800-631-7796
Thank you so much for all the numbers! Intercity said something about only coming as far as Syracuse from Florida. Oh well. I'm having a hard time with the trust involved in letting someone drive off with it on a truck, but they do it all the time with cars more valuable than mine, so I guess I'll just have to cope. Have you ever had any damage or claim necessity? Thanks again for the info,
Give Rich Lacy a call.... he's a Shelby guy himself.... http://www.richsclassictransport.com/home2.html
Deborah, I used Passport Transport (believe I recall they are owned by Fed Ex) last summer to bring my GT500 from CA to VA. Certainly not the cheapest, but it was an enclosed trailer and they did put up plastic between the upper and lower cars. My car arrived in perfect condition, no complaints whatsoever! Cost was about $2k, but worth it for not having any issues at all. Bob
Thanks Guys, for all the good information. We had been going to rent a pickup and bring it back in a trailer we would borrow or rent, but surprisingly, it will actually be cheaper to have it transported for us. Go figure. Thanks again,
Intercity just picked up a '69 Z28 ( definately not ours) from our shop here in Buffalo. They had two older Ferrari's and a Early Jag they had just picked up in Macedon already on the truck. Not sure why they would give you the run around. The driver and his wife were very nice. He told me there were about 35 trucks in their fleet, with the drivers owning the trucks and Intercity owning the trailers. Hope this helps.
Hi 6S2349, The guy I talked to from Intercity kept saying he didn't have range this far west "from Florida" so the route apparently affects that. I've gotten about 4 quotes so far and they are all in the same ballpark. Not very many of them seem to want to accept credit cards, does that strike anyone else as vaguely shady? Or is there some sensible reason that I am just not aware of?
I've used about 7 different shippers. Horseless Carraige is by far the highest quality I've used next to some private haulers. They are not cheap and they usually have a long waiting list, but they are the best commercial carriers I know of.
I too used Rich's Classic Transport and was very happy with the service and extremely happy with the price. They delivered my GT500 from Florida to Ohio and they were very competitive if not the cheapest price I found. My cars engine was out of the car and they had no problem handling that either. They strapped that baby down and transported it along with my car. I also believe they are family run business. I think it was Rich's brother who delivered my car. http://www.richsclassictransport.com Good luck with the new toy!
Deb: I used Fed Ex Custom Critical (Passport Transport) three times and they were great. They matched Intercity's price quote, the car came bagged, and ahead of schedule. JB
