    Hopefully someone can help me out here. I recently damaged my oil dipstick for my 69 vintage 428CJ engine. I went looking through all my extra parts and found a dipstick with the same PN but it was about 1 inch shorter. I then purchased what was suppose to be a NOS dipstick. This dipstick is the same length as my original one in the engine but it is different. Below is a description of what is stamped into the 3 dipsticks. If anyone knows the differences I would appreciate it.

    All 3 have chrome handles.
    * is a small round circle that are centered
    [] is actually a box around the FoMoCo
    () is actually an oval around a cursive ford

    The shorter one:
    ADD * * * FULL C70E-6750-A [FoMoCo] M

    The original:
    ADD 2 ->| ADD 1 ->| SAFE |<- WARRANTY REQUIRES 101-B OIL C70E-6750-A (ford) M

    The new one:
    ADD 2 ->| ADD 1 ->| SAFE |<- WARRANTY REQUIRES SE 101-C OIL (ford) C70E-6750-A M

    Thanks Kevin

    The C70E is an engineering number - If I had to guess I would say one dipstick is for a 390 and one is for a 427/428 - perhaps some other Ford product - Thunderbird, Fairlane, etc?

    I had a dipstick issue with my 9,000 original miles survivor 1967 GT 500 car and my guys figured it out with the help of Jim Cowles though I do not know what the solution was.

    Good luck

    The problem with my dipstick was it was bent the wrong way. When it went down the tube it hit the tray in the pan and bent it up towards the crank. When the crank came around it ended up breaking off a piece of the dipstick. We could see exactly what was happening when we dropped the pan, and we also found the piece. I now know why there is a slight bend in the dipstick (my original was almost straight after all the years) and know which way to insert it now.
