    I am looking to get a hold of a 1969 Councourse Judge. Does anyone know anybody REALLY knowlegalbe?

    I have bunch of questions, I want good pics off all the markings, etc. Looks like my car was primed Gray not Red Oxide on the floor, I want to see if this is correct and why. The spare tire question is still out there. Seems my car had a full size spare due to it having the smaller tires, should it have a Shelby wheel as a spare? Date codes and part numbers for different parts. Finish of interior parts, bolts etc. Checked the nvsaac site, its ok, but still not much info

    At what point are you with the car currently?

    I would suggest you at least start (for the color and finishes- not all but many) with the MCA rules. The Nevada site it fine but the pictures are not always of restored or better yet untouched original cars. And even with the restored cars there are always (well most fo the time) some mistakes somewhere. Same problem/issue you can have with magazine cars.

    As for the grey - that is what we normally find on Dearborn, though they may have changed back during the late 69 production. The grey is what is referred to as a batch paint where left over exterior color was mixed with grey epoxy primer to save money and improve its sealing property. Color can be from a medium shinny grey to a almost black.

    If you have the original floor pan color still there....just match it exactly. If its not very good then let us know what month and maybe I can find an example from the same month.

    The car is a clean California car. Though it has a repaint, it is pretty original underneith. Factory primer and overspray. The primer is very dark almost black as you said. The car was built Jan 21st its #589. I am just getting started. I have never had a car that I could drive, and this one looks great from 10ft! So I am going to drive it for 6-8 months while I get info, and I need a few parts. Smog equipment, and most of the other date coded bolt on stuff. Water pump, radiator, alternator. Its a real solid car, just needs to be restored. Found the build sheet! The spare tire question still needs to be answered. and there is GOBS of sealer between the fender aprons and fenders. I guess is correct but really looks like crap.

    I've been reading your posts with interest as we have several things in common. My car is #593 (built 4 cars and 2 days after yours) scheduled for build on 1/29/69 but actually built on 1/23/69 (6 days ahead of schedule). It is also an original GT500 4 speed California car that was shipped to Hayword Ford but sold from S&C Motors in San Francisco. It is mostly original with 1 re-paint and has 81,000 original miles on it. I wanted this car since I was 18 and was 38 when I bought it 5 years ago. I have a dog named Shelby but we call her "Shelfy" because she is not deserving of the name. One difference is that I have no plans to restore it as I want to keep it as original as possible.

    In regards to the tire size question, I am fairly certain that I read that the cars were shipped from Ford to the A.O. Smith plant (where they recieved all of the Shelby mods) with standard rims & tires (F70-14's). The 15" Shelby tires and rims were installed at the A.O Smith plant. My build sheet says 5 under the tires quantity info but then has a note at the bottom that says "whls tires 4 only". I think all 69/70 Shelby build sheets will show the F70-14 size as that is how they left the Ford plant.

    I am under the impression that all 69/70 Shelby's had the spacesaver spare which I assume was also installed at the A.O. Smith plant. I looked and my car does not have the bracket for the spacesaver canister either. The instruction decal on the trunk lid shows a metal bracket and spring in the diagram which is what I have. The bracket is not attached to anything. It simply holds the bottle to itself with a spring. (See attached pics)

    If you are looking for a date code correct engine, the date on my original engine is 9A6 (January 6th, 1969)

    My bellhousing has a 8F20 date code (June 20th, 1968) I assume but am not certain that it is original.

    Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! The Guy as Shelbyparts.com said he thought I had different size tires, so I will have to look into it more. I think you are prob right and your bracket is correct. The other fact to support that is on the invoice for the wheel recall it only shows 4 wheels.

    What color primer was your car?

    Do you have any special emissions? Truck mounted stuff?

    How much sealer do you have between your fenders and fender aprons?

    My Bellhousing is May, so I guess that confirms it.

    Can I Please have your short block?

    Todd -maybe you should attend some shows in your area and take a bunch of pics of some of the winners and talk to the owners. Lots of this information legwork has already been done and most owners Ive met are very willing to share their knowledge. Big show at Ted Britt in Chantilly today, more coming up. Check the Capital Cruizing web site for lots of show info.

    You are welcome. Please keep in mind that I am no expert, just passing along info I have read or that applies to my car as it is now, which I believe to be almost completely original but can't be absolutely certain.

    I haven't really looked at the primer or fenders sealer that closely. When I get a chance I will take a closer look. Was there a particular area that you were looking at the primer?

    No special emmisions in the trunk. I thought I read in one of your other posts that it is possible that they were only on 1970 California cars. I do have the tube etc. on the right side of the trunk that was installed for the backfire issue recall.

    Sorry but that would be a no on the short block. I will keep you in mind should something serious ever happen to the car but please do not hold your breath as I have no intentions of that happening.

    Is your car #581 or #589? I saw one number in a post and the other in your information page. How about a picture?

    Just FYI but I have found the search options on the forums and pictures on E-Bay to be of great help. You just have to realize that everything you read or see may not be exact but if you see a pattern it can point you in the right direction. Seems that any question I have had has already been covered by someone else. Good luck & type to you soon.

    I will take some pics in the next few days. The car is 589. I was looking at the primer in the trans tunnel, and inside the frame. I do not think my car went back for the recal. I wont count on the block:D

    Todd did you see the (mostly) original paint 30K mile 69 for sale on EBay the last week? Was being sold my Jim Cowles. Nice car and lots of pictures posted.

    Like that makes much difference ;) All built in 68 or 69 and a couple of things added or changed
