Any ideas on the U shaped trim on the rear valence ? Looks nice and is a cougar part.I have seen it on cars in the 800 plus range...The mickey mouse replacement was a 65/66 trim ring cut to fit.The originals are thin and chromed, not anodized aluminium. They are one of many details that are not in the registry, and really should be.Is anybody aware of a good source of cougar parts? Thanks in advance!
My car has flat trim fings, not the 65/66 half cut ones. They look like a flat aluminum, maybe they were once polished and are dull now. They appear to be a cast piece maybe and have small pins on the back that are held to the valence witha kind of push on washer/clip. The only ones I have ever seen are on the 67 brochure on the green and red car. The green car has a good shot of them close up too. Would like to see some pics of your trim rings. I was also told once that these were production pieces from a Cougar. Car is#0031 too. Randy
Randy, If you have the time, would you please take a couple of pictures of the trim pieces on your car and either post them on this thread or e-mail them to me directly? I would really like to see them. Thanks, Eric
These where put on the early cars, mainly the cars built with a number smaller than 1000, and, I think even way less than that. And they are 65/66 GT valence trim. Let's be careful about what we think we know here about this. If you didn't own the car when new, then exactly how do you know?? How can you say?
Well I hope the Pic that I uploaded works...... It is of an early 1967 Shelby that has the running lights in the Upper Side Scoops. I took the photo at the MCA 30th Anniversary Show in 1999 at the Lowes Motor Speedway.
Here is a photo of the Inboard Head Lights on the same Shelby. You will notice that they stick out past the Grill and do not have the Chrome Trim Rings.
My car #130 has the same grill and exhaust trim as tesgt350's pictures, 65-66 hipo trim cut in half....and that "is original"....
My #738 came with trim rings that are not from the 65/66. They are solid flat steel in a U shape, and were chrome plated. I ordered the 65/66 rings and installed them but the 3 holes did not line up the same. Always wondered where my rings originated from. Cougar?? And my car is not early!
The 65-66 hipo trim was an early car exclusive, is my understanding.. Most of the later cars used the standard mustang valence, with the factory exhaust hole punched at the bottom of the panel..
Just want to point out that on my car, #0036, I too have that little screw hole at the top of the chrom that is shown in Cobreen's photos. It came that way judges.....
