Hi guys, Just got back from a three weeks vacation in the old country Sweden and have some advise for you: Always replace your rear wheel bearings when you have the axles out and haven't changed them for a while. I learnt the hard way this past weeks. When driving my 67 from the Club of American Ford's convention to my summer house, a trip of 200 miles, the right rear wheel bearing started to make a noise. With about 10 miles to go the noise was so bad, I stopped and called my Collector Car insurance company in Sweden and 30 minutes later a flat bed tow truck showed up and took my car to the summer house. Out of pocket cost was about $40. With the help of friends that loaned me the tools and a neighbor who loaned me his car, I was able to get new bearings and installed the one on the right rear wheel. Before I drive the car next year, I will install the left one as well. I have never thought about rear wheel bearings until one went bad. Could have been much worse if the wheel had locked up or something. Created a lot of metal pieces collected in the brake drum though. Glad to back home again. Regards, Texas Swede
Hi Bo Have you checked the oil in the rear end . If it is to low you will not get enough oil in the axel tubes to keep the bearings lube by the gear oil. Post some pictures of the cars at the Shelby meet. Mike
Hi Mike, Sorry, but I don't have any pictures as my camera gave up before the meet. Can't recharge it with the 220V over there and forgot my adapter. The rear wheel bearings are permanently greased and on the outside of the oil seals in the tubes which means that the oil will and should never reach the bearings. How is the 65? Texas Swede
