My compliments to those who made this forum- very nice layout. I have a question, though, being that I know very little past the Dodge sector- What is the car in the bottom left corner of the ShelbyForums.com banner, the one with Carroll at the right door?
Re: Question about the banner That car is a GT40 Mk IV. If it is red, it probably is the car that finished 1st Overall at LeMans in 1967. Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt drove it... GT40 car J-5.
Re: Question about the banner Here's a pic of the starting roster at 1967 LeMans... the car is the #1 car, a GT40. "Lola"? ...wasn't that the Kinks?
Re: Question about the banner I stand corrected. It is indeed a GT-40 MkIV. Even found the same picture on the web. Yurp...
Re: Question about the banner It walked like a woman and talked like a man? For an overview on Ford GT-40, Ford GT-40 For a bit about Lola Lola cars The Lola T70 of the late 60s was a very competitive car.
Re: Question about the banner There is a Lola model (model name escapes me at the moment) that was one of the pre-decesors to the GT40. There was one that ran at Daytona about '64 and looking at pictures it becomes obvious that there was some inspiration from it that made it's way into the early GT40's. The MkIV was really an entirely different animal from the MkI, MkII, and the MkIII GT40's. The I, II, and III were sort of different derivitives of the same car, but I don't think there were really any significant parts that made their way from the MkII to the MkIV. The yellow MkIV was at SAAC 25. I have pictures of it here: http://www.highrpm.net/calvins/photos/index.php?path=L2NhcnMvU0FBQzI1Lw==&page=1 There were quite a few GT's at that event, Including one that had been in peices since '67 and was available for sale (pictures of the rusty floor panel and the gold body sitting on blocks).
