My local dealer has a Shelby 4.6 he refers to as an outfitter. He also has a Black w/red stripes 5.4. I am new to this and don't understand other than the obvious diffrences of motor size. Are they built by the same?
Re: Difference in Shelby 4.6 to 5.4 If the 4.6 is a "SHELBY GT" (see lower Side Stripes) and has a Numbered Dash Plaque between to two middle A/C vents, then it is a Ford GT Mustang that was sent to Las Vegas so Carroll Shelby's Company can turn it into a Shelby GT like in the old days and they are offered in just Two Colors, Black with Silver Stripes or Performance White with Silver Stripes. If it is a "GT 500" (see lower Side Stripes) then it is a Shelby GT 500 built at Ford Motor Company BUT authorized by Carroll Shelby. BOTH of these are Shelbys. there is also the 4.6 "SHELBY H" (see lower Side Stripes) with the Numbered Dash Plaque between to two middle A/C vents that is Black with Gold Stripes and HERTZ Fender Badges, which are Ford GT Mustangs that was sent to Las Vegas so Carroll Shelby's Company can turn it into a Hertz Shelby like in the old days.
Re: Difference in Shelby 4.6 to 5.4 This could be a standard GT with Shelby body parts installed. Several of these clones have already shone up on E-bay at new car dealerships. Be careful what you are purchasing. A few pictures should tell us what you are looking at.
I would think that if you looked at one and it had the "Shelby GT" package as part of the pricing on the window sticker and the plaque on the dash that it would be a real Shelby GT and not a clone. As far as collectability I am confused as to why the GT500s weren't built by Shelby as well. I wonder if that will effect the value of them in the long run.
