Hi everyone I am brand new to this forum having just discovered it last Friday. This weekend I purchased a 1965 GT350R clone from a dealer in Dallas, Texas. The car was sold this spring at Barret Jackson in Scottsdale as #373 and was built by CARCO Automovite Services in Tonapah, Az. There are a number of things that need to be done to the car to make it a more accurate clone. Could any of you recommend sources for catalogs with parts to help me start this project. Dick

Re: 65 GT350R Clone The car has a prexiglass rear window but not the side windows. I need to get the large gas tank and trunk fuel filler. Also need to put the oil cooler on. The car looks great and just needs a few small things to make it right. I keep telling myself that it is after all only a "clone", but I want it to be a authentic looking one . The car won't be delivered untill next week and I will post some pics then. I have the Branda catalog and am looking for any others. Dick
Re: 65 GT350R Clone I have been toying with the idea of putting together a special Shelby Clone Package consisting of a special Numbered Dash Plaque, a Matching Under Hood Badge, a Frunt Bumper Number and a Certification Certificate, that Certifies the Clones as being Tribute Cars. I would also build a Registration Page on my web site like I did for the 1994 to 2005 Tribute Edition Shelby's that my company built under contract with Carroll Shelby Licensing. I have already put together a list of what it will take to get a Clone certified as a Tribute Car so I just need to decide if I want to follow through with it. I have also toyed with the idea of publishing a 1965 to 1993 Mustang Registry simular to the Shelby American Registry.
Re: 65 GT350R Clone I just got a catalog from Cobra Automotive in Wallingford, CT. today. There stuff looks like good quality but some of it seems a little pricey. Like "reproductions of the original battery caps for trunk mounted battery 1965 ShelbyGT350" for $279.00. Are there any other catalogs that you guys can suggest? Dick

Re: 65 GT350R Clone Hi, I didn't mean to diminish your idea. I hope you didn't interpret it that way. It would be a lot hard work to put something like that together. It would ultimately increase the "fun" factor in this hobby. In my opinion the fun factor is being overlooked these days in favor of the "lets see how much money we can pump these things up to factor". If this Shelby family can include things like Dodge pickup trucks and front wheel drive turbo twinkies with imported parts it certainly includes clones as well, ...and honorably. My only objection would be some kind of "certification for sale" thing.. That would be just an extension of the present madness. I would like to see a category at concourse type events that was specifically for "tribute" type cars. Earn your certification by an MCA judge.. with a certain number of points. jimbo
Re: 65 GT350R Clone Yes it would be a lot of Hard Work..... but FUN. I have been working on this Idea for some time now and I have a List of what I feel a Clone (Tribute Car) is for each of the Years and Models. In other words, you can't just paint on Lemans Stripes and install a couple of Emblems and call it a Clone even though many people do just that. I have seen many Clones that look just like the real thing and are about 90% correct. So I thought why not get them orginized by having them send me Photos to prove they have a Clone by using the Parts list that will be on my Web Site. If it passes, then I will send them a special Dash Plaque, Under Hood Badge and a special Certificate that will have a Photo of their NOW "Tribute Car" printed on it. I feel that if I do this right, MCA, (and maybe SAAC) will start to notice the Cars, espicially if I am strict about the Certification. The only Registry will be on my Web Site and in my Files. I will keep a File on each Car that gets Certified by me. Very nice Clones are fetching good money these days. D.
Re: 65 GT350R Clone You know what I meant.. This was not intended as a slam on the FWD cars.. Cobras were made with lots of imported parts.. like the whole damned car jimbo
