" "ORIGINAL" early production 1968 SHELBY GT500 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE in bad condition without title, VIN numbers, engine, transmission and several other parts (see below). This is what is left of a Shelby that has been "re-bodied". Some of the body of this car has body rot and some of the interior has mold and mildew damage. Use this car for parts or restoration."

Rebody? Somebody running around with this cars numbers. looks like the tag may still be on the inner fender...

This is a strange deal. What's your take on this...

Your right...you can see a shelby tag on the drivers side inner fender. I wonder what the number is...this is very strange.

I'll tell you what it is. This car has been stripped of all it's vin numbers and title, and they've been put on a mustang somewhere that is now masquerading as a GT 500 - probably sitting in some unsuspecting owners garage. Lord help him if whoever buys this hulk finds the vin number, and applies for a "lost title" in another state. The whole mess will end up in court with the value of these cars today.

    Anyway, that's my take:angry:

After lookiing this carefully there is a good chance (because his communication isn't clear) that the car you are seeing is actually the rebody. There are enough things I see that suggest this car started out as a non Shelby unit.

If you look closely enough, I think I can see the Big Block Shock Tower Bracing and the Shelby Tag on the Inner Fender. And from the looks of it, the only VIN# missing is the one that rivits to the Dash. I think the person selling it may have ment to say that it needs to be rebodied. DMV would go by the VIN# on the Inner Fender. Just my opinion.........

I see all that but there are quite a few things that suggest that is not a NJ car.

I had to think why you were asking  . That pic is about 4 years old (I should update it) Thats the way they were when I bought them but later research found originals to be black. The SAAC boys always liked them.:)

Re: no number 68 conv on ebay

This car is an accident waiting to happen by the looks of things! early 68's did not have shock tower braces. that was a Cobra Jet addition. the reflectors in the rear quarter panels and the Marchal Fog lamps indicate early 68 car. after re reading the ad, and reviewing the pictures, it is clearly the car that was rebodied. so what you are buying is some Shelby Parts attached to a Mustang convertible that are already far past their value at $12,000 dollars.

I can't see that the shock towers are reinforced. Which early 68 500's should not be. The quarter reflectors are correct. It has a tilt canister. These may be old pictures because the seller has indicated that the numbers were removed and added to a different body. These pictures do not show any inner fender hack jobs and the plate appears to be there. Maybe they only took the dash plate....

It looks real to me ..sagging in the mid section, but real.

Not so. Early 500s (going back to 67) were reinforced by welding. I think what you mean is they didn't have wrap around bracing.

yea, I was thinking of the wrap around. No real good engine bay shots to look at them well on this car.

Looks like a loosing propopsition .... sagging rust bucket, attorney fees, maybe another car/owner, parts missing, DMV says" can you repeat that story one more time..."

sometimes all is not what it "Appears" to be! notice they did not cut out the metal for the tail lights?? it looks real to me alright. a Real Vintage Clone that was built with original parts taken from a wrecked or stolen

Re: no number 68 conv on ebay

That actually is correct for 68. They didn't cut them out fully like 67s. The ribs of the original holes were removed and the plate with the recess screws over it. Then more holes were drilled and covered with more plates with recesses to allow for the Tbird lamps. There are a couple variations to how they did it in 68

Noticed someone torched a foot or so out of the sway bar. Never seen anyone do that before. Anyone think of a reason for that mod?

That usually is a Junkyard technique making engine removal easier. often referred to as using a "Heat wrench"!

I think they are in the process of building the cars replacement. why else would they be stripping certain things from this car?? still a shady proposition!
