Prior to restoring (the first time)my car in 1984 - 86 (sorry Snakepit, but I think the term was in use for some time before that PHR article), I took a bunch of slides of details that would be lost after the car was finished. I remember looking for the “KD” on the car at that time. I found the “D” but couldn't figure out what the other letter was. I dug out those old slides and and took a look at the markings located on the outside of the right side inner fender panel just in back of the radiator support. The letter above and to the left of the “D” just might be a “Q” (the letter is not all that clear). The two letters are separated by a “/” and are in yellow grease pencil. There was also what looked like an “8” and an “N” or “Z” depending on how you looked at it on the firewall above the export brace. Anybody know what those marks are for?

    Texas Swede,

My car (67400F7A03040) was completed 7/17/1967, the dealer order was received 10/10/1967, and was shipped out on 10/26/1967. It must have sat outside for almost three months. A “Z” precedes the serial number. Interesting that two cars with such widely separated serial numbers were shipped so close together. Yes I know they were not shipped out in the order in which they were produced, but it is still kind of interesting.

No problems.... been playing with these cars since 73 and I had not seen it before that. Any lead on where you saw it?

The markings on the battery box area is one of the three locations those marks can be found for that year and plant. Looks like you found similar to what I stated. Your one of the few that thought of taking pictures!!! back then

Seen that on two other cars. It seems to be one of the non-typical marks we find on cars. Ones that are not on many (sometimes even just one car at this point) so determining their application is difficult. If I recall correctly the 67 Shelby on that was on the cover of PHR in 67 had the same or similar mark. Have you compare your to that one? I don't have it handy this moment

In 67 at San Jose I've seen non-typical marks on the drivers A pillar, trunk lid, cowl by the hood seal

Even seen some odd ones on the back side of the front fiberglass

Hey ole buddy- I have 67 GT-500 #00636 and my car also went to Stockton Quincy Ford via Pico Rivera Inventory. Completed April 67 shipped Oct 67...sold sometime in early 68 as that is the date it was first registered. I lived in Laguna Hills for several years and now reside in San Diego. My car has and has always had center lights...how bout your car?

Now that this tread has been reopened, I thought I'd post scans of the slides I took when I first took my car apart that show the yellow grease pencil markings.

Roy thanks for posting what you found - Do you know when it was completed at San Jose (helps put the marks at a point in relationship to others)

The firewall one is the only one that I'm unsure of at this point (not sure if its a San Jose or Shelby one - but it is a inconsistant one)

    Thanks again
