as far as I can see there is no number on the plate in windshield tail lights say 67 this is 64-66 shape eninge and gearbox still with seller must collect. gearbox tunnel well made not home made, let me know if the boud number is in any other posittion as it is not inside hood area. have photos will post when I find correct page
Looks a standard 68 Vert. Look for the VIN stamped in the inner fender on the drivers side in a "notch" on the fender. It will also be on the warranty plate attached to the drivers door, if it's still there. There is another VIN stamping on the passenger side, but it's covered up by the fender. Does the car have a title?
check and see if the Shock towers have extra wrap around bracing at the lower part. sign of Big Block.
First off, YES there is 1 67 Shelby convertible. It is presently owned by the Volo Car Museum, It was an early car, built real near to Lil' Red, the only hard top. Ah, it was stolen/recovered about the time the 68 styling was being set, so, Shelby had all the 68 stuff put on it. Since this was a prototype, it was supposed to be crushed (Fomoco mandate), but since it looked like a 68, Shelby-American sold it, like all the company cars after six months of use. Ok, isn't this about the 1000th time we've hear this story about another car "supposed to be a Shelby". SAAC has ALL the VIN's, if it matches their records, yes it is, if not, NO it ain't. The only real Vin's are on the inner front fenders. There should be the famous aluminum plate pop riveted over the Ford vin on the left side. Plus, shelbys assembly men also stamped the shelby vin in on the passenger side. You CANNOT go by the door data plate, doors are bolted on and can be removed.
have checked all over this car cannot find any number on the body only a little plate on the passenger side on top of the dash no sign of a nomber on that plate eavan after an acid test. what engine number, this can only be confimed once I collect it later this week, have found out that this car was white and respayed red thanks for all the assistance guys
If the Car was wrecked or Stolen, the inner fender numbers could also be long gtone. Yes there is only one Documented 67 Shelby Convertible at the Volo Museum. While This appears to be a 1968 Convertible, tell tale signs would remain if it was ever a Shelby Convertible. 4 leaf Rear springs, 9 inch rear, Roll Bar welds, and a number of other details that I need not get into as This Car really is not showing any promise of ever having been a Shelby. at Best it is a Mustang Convertible! No doubting that. One of the Best Selling lines on an Old Mustang is, "I think it is an old Shelby I just do not know as I got it from my neighbor......." Or Boss Car, Mach 1, CJ Car etc. as the value of 60's Muscle approaches insanity prices, More and More crusty crap is going to surface. Do not get me wrong, There is still Crusty old REAL SHELBY Cars out there!! I know of several. But like so many others, They just are not for Sale!!
Yep, ain't that the truth. So, just because all/most of the numbers are missing, THAT would make it a Shelby.... "IF" there is a number on the dash "THAT" is the Vin number. Have Marti Auto works see what it was built with, where it was delivered, options.
I have taken more pics of the body, this car is complete but was dismantled by someone to restore. I last ran two years ago. Note it does not have any rust only surface rust where paint has been removed. rear sping have 5 blades, photos show tag suspension mounts and transmission tunnel from top and bottom not gas cutting to widen tunnel, I did not say it is a shelby but I want assistance to identify this vehicle as I do not think this transmission tunnel is standard, thanks once again for the help Keith
