Rick Kopec had not owned 5R098 for several years now. The owner had Rick drive it in Vintage races for him. Not a bad deal...sell for good money and still get to drive it! shlby66
The other one for sale across the street when for 600. Rumors had it that the #98 may have gone to Leno. But just rumors. Market appears soft with nervous buyers and sellers. In general most auction type cars were not getting anything but bargain bids and the personalized cars were really embarrassed as were most clones. IMHO European cars appeared to be doing well but did not go to all four auctions
Snakepit, What are you referring to; regarding the #89 ? Is that a number painted on the car or is it VIN number ? Just curious as there is no 5R089. Prices on competition cars in general reflect their desirability based on the history of the vehicle. More documented race history; Notable drivers ( Miles, Titus, Johnson, Gerber, etc. ) Races and Championships won, are things collectors pay attention to. And yes, the market overall is leveling off. The ridiculous prices bid in recent times on dubious ( think "recreations" "tribute" or any other euphemism for a fake ) is plain stupid money. However, I think Cobra and Shelby prices will remain stronger than the rest of the market. That is, for the best examples: originals in mint condition and high quality restored and maintained examples. That does not mean good quality driver status Shelbys will drop in value anytime soon. The best ones always bring the highest prices. shlby66
Thanks for picking up on that ... its been changed Agreed for those cars it is all about the history for most buyers The other one sold was #213 As for the market, first IMHO it is almost impossible to compare and get a true feel for it unless you watch specific cars with no issues, since no two cars are alike. And auctions(one of the easiest ways to follow) are most often filled cars with issues and quick incomplete/incorrect restorations if you want to call them by that name. Agree with you on the fakes or copies (what ever one wants to call them) but as always there will be a market for almost any car. The best examples will always hold their own the best but the drivers and poorer done cars are starting to suffer from what I've seen but we are only on the leading edge it appears. We will have to wait to see where the road takes us Without looking at my notes, some addition bids/sales from this weekend 1- The first 68 KR sold for $160K 2- A 69 GT500 driver got one bid from a guy who had been standing at the bar too long for $40 or 45K 3- 70 Boss 302 Pretty car with a hot rod NASCAR 351 and the original block topped out in the low 30K's 4- 66 GT350 driver sold for $104K
Hi guys Where did he sell his car at? In an auction?? I never thought i´d sell that car. It is a legend. But the price is awesome he bought it for what 80000$??? He might been a broaker when he was younger! Why is he not in this forum??? I sure would like to ask him a few questions or even call him up. Where can i see detailed picures of the 5R098??? Does anybody have details on the sale prices of the other 1965's at the Auction? I know there were two street cars at RM and at least one '65 at Russo & Steele. BTW, how do I start a new thread? It should be simple, but I don't see a link....I'm a newbie MC
