Note for the List Administrator

Discussion in 'Shelby Mustang List' started by Dennis@carmemories.com, Mar 19, 2005.

  1. Hey, I just took care of a very irrate person that apparently had some
Mustang fiberglass for sale a couple of years ago and someone sent an
email to the list about the parts. Included on that email was the
fellow's first name, phone number and other contact information.

He apparently did a Google search recently and discovered his
information was in the list archives and still on the internet. And he
wasn't happy about it. In fact he wanted it removed immediately if not
sooner. Of course he didn't give me enough information to really know
what he was referring to or to be able to find it on CarMemories.com. On
his second attempt we were able to get enough information to locate the
    item in question.

So what is the lesson here.
    1) Be aware that if you send an email to the list over 400 people will
see it and it will be archived.
    2) Search engines will search and display these emails messages.
    3) Do not include personal information in an email to the list. And
especially do not include someone else's personal information without
their permission. Or get them sign a release (joke).
    4) Be aware that ANY email you send on the internet is public whether it
is to the list or to your mother.

So be careful what you send. Be cautious of using personal information
in an email unless you don't mind if strangers contact you.

    Thanks
    Dennis

    Dennis,

I did a search on my restoration place last night and was very surprised
when I saw an e-mail thread list that's on our website. It dated back quite
some time ago and I was able to see all kinds of old responses form people
on the list. Somehow those notes got linked to my Google search. I had
never seen that before. I wonder if Google tuned up their engine (search
    engine that is).

    Jeff
