Re: Original Coil for 67 GT500 A 40 year old NOS one will run between $2-400 and its a crapshoot that you'll get the correct date code. JD Larsen has excellent reproduction coils (these are not the junk ones that used to be out) I compared one to a NOS one I have and would be hard pressed to tell the difference. About the only thing would be lack of indexing button which you most likely wouldn't find on a service replacement anyway. And he'll stamp it with a date that best suits your car. I think they are about $85-90. Tim
Re: Original Coil for 67 GT500 The indexing button on the coils you refered to was was only used in 1965 production . The coil brkt would have a hole in it to fit over the index button.The 67 coil and brkt is the same used on 68,69/70 Shelby's or Mustangs. Bob G.

Hi, Anybody know what the embossed letters/numbers on the yellow top between the posts stand for. Have been told they are not the date code because the numbers can be later than the date code specified in the ink stamp? Thanks, Texas Swede
I believe JD Larsen takes the new repop coils, which are made in China, and repaints them and adds the ink stamp, several date codes are available. They do look very nice, the only difference I could see from an original is the lack of the code on the top between the posts that Bo mentions. I got one of these from JD several months ago and it lasted about 20 miles before it died. I'm aware of at least one other person on the HiPo forum who had the same thing happen, apparently they may have a problem with heat. To JD's credit he replaced my coil even though he was under no obligation to do so. He did mention he had sold over 100 of these and mine was the first failure he was aware of. For now I keep the one he replaced in the trunk as an emergency backup only.
I just had the second reproduction coil go bad in less than a month two different cars. I always carry spare parts a coil being one of them I have given up on the cheap repop parts and have bought better Quality parts from the speed shop and painted them black to look more like an original. I have also had a repop coil that just did not have enough spark the car would not run worth crap. Dominic
I have a few 67 coils laying around. They aren't pretty but they were working when I pulled the of the cars they were on, if you are interested. Larry
