substitute for a GT500 428/427??

    Quick question... hypothetically... if your engine goes bang and can't procure a new block...

    or if you have a clone and want to try to get that 428/427 look and sound...

    Which new crate engine would tick all the boxes for you?

    I like an all aluminum 427 stroked out to a 490 complete with alum heads and intake....i like the 427 based motor over the 428. Check out www.hawaiiracing.com!

    Replacement blocks are out there... I found a correct date-coded 428 block from a 68 Cougar on Epay back in February from Don Rush out in Oregon. I had checked into going all aluminum as well (majority Shelby parts) and the budget was going to be in the $25k price range. I ended up putting about $10k into this motor which included the new (original bore) block/crank, new pistons, rods, valvetrain, etc. I wanted to stay as close to original as possible, but it is not a concourse application...
