Scott, I just joined today. Looking forward to sharing stories. Just got an 07 GT500 Sunday. Awesome. I thougth I was going to win Shelby's in the recent contest, no luck. My heart was set on the vista blue with the white stripe, very retro. So I found a dealer in Ohio, Sptizer Ford. Talk to John Wolonsky. Call his cell 303-603-2877. He'll make you a deal. supposedly they are the largest cobra dealer in the country. I got mine for a great price. Here in Chicago theyre going for 15-20K over sticker....still!!! Let me know what you think. I'm snake bitten. Paul:cool:

Welcome Paul & thanks to all for a good group.

Paul, I'll welcome you, but I've only been involved since the weekend and of the 3 Harley, 3 car and 1 pinball discussion groups I belong to, this is far & away the BEST EVER. I've learned SO MUCH in just the week from everyone, and the welcomes and encouragement have been much appreciated.

    SO, THANKS EVERYONE!

I'm still struggling in my mind, but the options are certainly more clear. A GT-H is still in the running; 07 GT's are indeed a good deal, I bet you could get a new one at mid-30's or even better, I see a couple local dealers with 500's and the '08 convertible GT is still calling to me as well.

    Options are good, right?

Oh, and if you care to share, I'm always interested in what people do and the connection with their screen name. I know, mine's not hard to guess - I run a criminal justice program for a private university and am a retired cop/chief from the Twin Cities. Might I guess periodontist (sp?) or the like on your end?

Scott, you're right on with the Periodontist. Sounds like you're on the fence with the mustang? Or are you really into the used rentacar? A really sweet car is the Parnelli Jones Saleen with the Grabber orange and black stripe, shaker hood, 400 HP and only 500 made. Awesome interior. Something you dont typically hear about mustangs. There is a local dealer by me that has the #123 car....really cool. If you want to modify it then you have to save all parts for later resale as a collector. The rotating assembly is done! Its a stroker motor. Since you live in MN why dont you check out the Saleens?B)

Thx for reply, interesting about jobs/screen names!

What kind of price on the Saleen you mentioned?

I guess I haven't thought about the Saleen's because I don't know anything about them, and being a muscle car guy for "the good old days" the Shelby name means something to me, and I remember the orig Rent-a-Racers. But that doesn't mean I'm stuck on them - it's just what drew me to Fords after renting the GT-H this summer.

Go to the Saleen website. Saleen.com and check them out. Make sure you do your homework. If you are looking for a car that has the basics and then upgrade then get a basic mustang GT if you can get the 5.4L otherwise your into pulling the engine and more money. Saleen has different packages and really can do it up right, but the body modifications were too much for me. I am more retro. in my likes. My cobra was the best bang for the buck. If youre interested in a cobra then call the guy I got mine from in Ohio. John will help you out. The grabber orange parnelli saleen is at Oakfield Ford in Villa Park, Illinois. Check out the website. There is a silver Saleen S281 that i know John Schreiber at Oakfield will let go for way under sticker. Sticker is 55K but he offered it to me for 47K without even haggling... so there is more room to go. Remember it is costing them money to keep the car around. Probabley 30-50 bucks per day so they might even be upside down by now. It is an 06 but not titled and has a warranty. I would have bought it but I found my cobra. The thing that was so cool about my cobra was that i spent 54K but got 0% financing from Ford for 36months. unbelievable. I drove away with just my signature. keep in touch. Paul:thumbsup:

FYI when I bought my Shelby GT the dealer had the same Grabber orange Saleen you described for $10,000 more than the GT500! or $75,000. That's why I bought the GT it was allot cheaper!

Doug, too bad, but I know for a fact that I could walk away with the Panelli Saleen for 61k or the 06 Saleen S281 for 47k. You still have a hell of a car. Over lunch I ordered a sun visor for the passenger side to send to Carrol for an autograph. Wonder what that might add to the value of the car? Paul
