I remain undecided what to pursue: 06 GT-H hardtop; 07 GT-H convertible; or new 08 Shelby GT.

While my preference right now would be the GT-H ragtop, the pricing is so crazy on these I expect them, if it's anything like when the 06's were first appeared on the market in January, they'll be out of reach for me until about this time next year ... but maybe the thrill of the GT-H returning has now faded so the convertibles won't be as bad to start off (although I rather doubt it).

I continue to have nightmares about how someone may have driven "my" GT-H as a renter! So the idea of brand new 08 is appealling; however ...

I just had a 3rd dealer offer a 2006 hardtop at 35K, which leads me to think if pressed one might be able to get even lower (actually, one did just offer to take the $200 "processing fee" off to make it $34,800!

If I could get one at 34K, even thought I'd prefer the convertible, that's getting to be an awfully good price. I just wish I could foresee the future prices on these cars (don't we all).

    Re: Prices

I say pull the trigger on whatever is easiest and the best price. In the end a few hundred dollars means little in the grand scheme of things. You can either buy the car at a very good price and enjoy it for the rest of the summer or you can keep posting on this site asking for advice on what you should do. I rather drive my cars then contemplating it. My friend Daviddalton bought a Shelby GT and tells me how much he loves driving it; i enjoyed riding in it and thought the car was great. There is also something to be said for owning the first year of the GT-H. i would consider the best price and what can i drive away in tomorrow. Best of luck and remember the best part of a Shelby is driving it  .

Actually, John, it wasn't my intent to "keep asking" for advice. Since I've only been looking for a Shelby for about 2 months now, I've learned the prices, at lest on the GT-H's, have fluctuated about $30,000 since January, and have gone down about $5,000 - $8,000 in the last 2 months. That's more than a couple hundred bucks :)

It's very helpful to get people's input and experience before pulling the trigger; plus, who doesn't like to talk cars anyhow?!

Part of the fun is the hunt sometimes for these cars. Glad you found yours, I'm about to; you're right - there's plenty of driving season left, including here in the tundra.

Hold out for the one you love!! Even if you have to wait for it. New car remorse is a terrible thing!

Maybe these won't depreciate terribly like most new cars, but I would think it would still cost you to be selling again soon?

    Re: Prices

Which one do you see yourself driving and enjoying the most? Don't consider price while you imagine it... Once you figure that part out then deal with the pricing (I don't mean suck it up, I mean barter between what you want to see yourself driving and what you can afford to spend)... This is the route I took as I wasn't sure if I should build a "plain ole" GT up to 500+ hp or spend the big bucks on the Shelby... For me it had a lot to do with the innate ability of the Shelby 5.4 motor plus the "Shelby" name and finally the fact that the prices started coming down when they announced that Shelby and Ford finally came to terms and they were going to make an '08 Shelby... So I started looking and was quickly discouraged because in my area the prices weren't coming down. I finally did the Ebay thing and found a few that matched what I saw myself enjoying to drive the most. I didn't bid on Ebay but I did call them and start bartering between them until I got one down to where I could deal with the price. Now I get to "live my dream" driving exactly what I want EVERYDAY!!! I hope you are at least as lucky!

That's the process I'm working on; good for you! So I take it you ended up with the Shelby 500?

I'm biased because I own an 07 GT500, but that's the car I recommend to you. Up to now it's the best and most powerful Mustang Ford's ever produced. Everything else is next best. Keep pushing for an MSRP deal. They are out there.

Hey Scott there's a new post out there from Lou, from Norfolk, who's looking at selling a 08 GT500, maybe he's the one to chat with.
