I was going through some old Road and Tracks and found some ads for '65 and '66 GT350s. The cars were for sale by people that are not identified in the '97 registry so if the owners of the following cars are on the forum, contact me and I will pass along the info from the ads. The cars are 5s192 5s500 6s1840 If I do not hear from the owners, I will pass along the info to SAAC. Jay
That also is true with classifieds in the old Marques, Shelby Americans and Snakebites: cars are for sale with vin but that info sometimes never showed up in the registry. It would be a great undertaking but it would be neat to put all those old classifieds in a searchable database. Would be helpful for the registrars too as sometimes they do reference "car for sale in Hemmings by John Smith in May 19,, issuie...". I know of one Shelby that was a "real low mileage" show car. An ad was found from 1978 showing mileage 10 times what they thought.
At this point I am doing that very thing for a different Marquee and that was what lead me to finding the above cars. This is not a trivial task and the one I am working is searching for only a few hundred cars and has taken much time already. Doing the same thing for the thousands of Shelbys would be incredibly time consuming and would require someone with much time on their hands. Are you volunteering Jay
No time for that here... OCR (optical character recognition) software may make the task easier. It takes scanned printed text and puts it back into data format. The original print must be clear. The software does have bugs and will make mistakes but it could make much shorter work of a project like that.
