I have just begun the teardown process on my 1969 GT500(0944)in hopes of someday completing the restoration. This is the first time Ihave done any kind of extensive mechanical work so Iexpect to make good use of the forum.
My question concerns the salvaging of original parts. At what point should an original part be scrapped and replaced with a new part?
For example my seat covers ,floor carpet and various other interior parts are in fine shape,as well as much of the exterior stainless trim but it will never have the lustrous appearance of brand new replacement parts.Should I stay as original as possible and sacrifice a bit of shine or go for that perfect look with replacement parts?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Id say to stay as original as possible.

    They are only original once!

    Best Regards,

If it were mine I would try to keep the 'hard parts' original. The stainless trim can be staightened & buffed to look new. Chrome can be replated if nessessary. As far as paint, if repainting stick to the original color. The 'soft parts' such as seats, headliner, dashpad, door panels and such is reproduced in very nice quality today. You have a very desirable car and the restoration should be done carefully and correctly. Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are a lot of experts here that can help you.
