I need some advice.... We are being given the option for 2 differnt roads to take to more HP..... Keeping in mind that this build is suppoed to be DIY friendly.... in the goal for more HP we have been given the offer to do a Super Charger or a simple pulley swap... has anybody done a pully swap... can the factory system handle this? Trust me im down for the full charger swap however I dont think it stays within the realm of the designated intensions of the build and the articles that will follow with them... Any ideas?
There are kits advertised for a pulley swap, cold air intake, and a tune and there are no further fuel requirements. That would be a lot less work than swapping a blower. But if you want BIG numbers there is a Kenne Bell kit that will provide what supposedly approaches 800rwhp! I would assume that you would need an aftermarket exhaust to go that crazy so that would add to the price tag... So in essence it depends on how much you want and how much you have to spend... There are kits that without a pulley swap provide about 500-520rwhp and the range goes up from there... http://www.kennebell.net/superchargers/ford/Shelby/Shelby.htm
Thank you for the input.... Ill make a call tomorrow and see which way the publications want us to go..... Im hoping we can drop the charger kit onto the car... that would be sick!!! on the other hand... so much for any kind of drive train warranty...
One more thing... If you choose to do your own pulley swap you will need a special pulley tool as they are pressed on, not bolted on. There are several kits/stages available from other tuning shops like Evolution Performance... http://www.evoperform.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=11_12
I just installed the Evo Stage 2 which is the 2.6 pulley, cold air intake and custome tune. The difference from stock is Phenominal-With stock tires if you nail it from a roll the rear tires will spin until mid 3rd gear or around 120 mph.The added power and torque per dollar, as well as staying in the dependable zone made this the best choice for me.If you do take the pulley swap route-be patient as it is tedious.
Thanks for the heads up..... I spoke with the magazines and thy are not wanting the full charger swap.... So I am talking with EVO as we speak.... wish me luck.......
Hey thanks for the great info. I was interested in the fact that this could void the existing warranty. Is that true? After the install did you have it Dyno'ed?
I have the good fortune of living 15 miles away from Evolution Performance. Nelson and Fred are extremely knowledgeable and live on the cutting edge of performance technology when it comes to these cars! I think they are your best bet to deal with when it comes to Price, Knowledge and service after the sale. as for my Shelby GT, well... I am struggling with myself to not Supercharge it! but when you stop by their place and everything there has a Charger on it, well it is lonely! last week I met a Guy who drove his GT500 Convertible there from Indiana to get a Kenne Bell Super Charger and a Performance Tune on his car. 11 hour drive each way! well, probably 10 hours to get back with the new upgrades!!
I think the question of to supercharge or not is answered. The question is do you go for the top of the line kenne bell or a smaller psi boost. As I always say "go big or stay home".
As to the warranty question,Everything I have done I can reverse in 2-4 hours,The problem lies in the truth-The pcm will save data showing you have exceded factory limits like timing advance, redline, top speed and many many other parameters. Most dealerships are quick to tell you its not under warranty because it is modified. On the flip side of that there is a law stating your car is under warranty unless it can be proven an aftermarket part caused the failure. If I have a computer or drivetrain issue it will be stock when it rolls into the dealership. The engine and transmission can easily handle the horsepower level that I am at.I would think the Super Snake will have very similar mods. After all,This car was bought to enjoy-And me and my family do just that.
I agree. I put a Roushcharger on my 06 GT after owning the car for only 2 weeks. At that time Whipple, Paxton, and Vortec were not ready yet and Kenne Bell was have major problems with their canned tune. I got one of the first 50 Roushcharger's released to the public and it is a nice piece, but I have already pullied it and have pushed the Roushcharger to its useful limit. I am now faced with starting over with a new supercharger or selling the car.
