Wouldn't it be good press for them to hand over my keys to a new GT500 while I'm there with the '67 GT500 that I bought new way back in '68? Seems like a good photo op for Shelby and Ford. $40k!!! That's just exactly the right price for the new Shelby Mustang! They actually are going to do this part of the game correctly! The quantity they're thinking of producing also seems about right. It's more than were produced in any given year in the '60's, but not by a huge margin, and the new one will be a significantly better car so I don't think they'll have any trouble selling them. At 7,000 units, I also don't think they'll be so rare that you'll have to pay above sticker after a few months--but I could be wrong about that. Now they need to do about 3 more things: 1) Make the original colors available, and at least make the side stripes the same as the originals. 2) Introduce a GT350 model soon enough, with subtle performance differences, eg, smaller engine, independent rear suspension (if not on the GT500). 3) Hook up a deal with Hertz for GT500 or GT350 H models. Hertz'd be crazy if they didn't get in on this marketing opportunity of 2 generations. I won't be taking any chances on delivery unless someone does the aforementioned bulk purchase arrangement with Ford. I've already talked to my dealer and plan to be the first with an order for one of these, and I guess they'll be the ones with the photo op. I just can't WAIT to drive to the dealer in my old GT500 to pick up the new one! I wish my dad were still around for this event as he was for the first one, but instead it'll be my son who labored so hard with me restore the Shelby...a totally fitting difference for 37 years, I would say.
