In my DSO, it lists the standard Mustang calipers (C7OA 2B118 A & 119 A) as being deleted and replaced with C7ZX 2B118 A & 119 A. Does anyone know what the difference is? I know that the inlet pipes were 3/8" vs 7/16" for the Mustang, I thought they were a carry over from 66!

I think 1967 was a split year for the One and Two piece Steering Colums and possibly a split year for four piston and single piston Calipers.

Good question, this baffles a lot of people. Kelsey Hayes made all the 4 piston calipers used from 65-67. The 65-66 casting is the same. The 65 had a 3/8-24 thread inlet while most of the 66's had a 7/16-24 thread. In 1967 they changed the casting, more so on the inner half. It has additional material cast between the two humps and is always 7/16-24 thread inlet. In addition there exists the 67 style Heavy Duty caliper. It looks like the normal 67 casting but is a slightly thicker casting and is identified by having large V shaped mounting ears. Additionally all 65-66 calipers have an external dust boot retaining ring that is press fit on, while both 67 styles have an additional groove in the bore for the later dust boot. Hope this helps.

What all 4 piston Calpers were inter-changable. I have a set off of a 1966 Thunderbird. The Rotors are bigger but are the Calipers bigger too?

The Kelsey Hayes 4 piston 1965-67 Thunderbird/Eldorado; yes, Cadillac used the same casting just a different transfer tube and hose inlet set up. This casting is an entirely different caliper than the Mustang, and is specific to those cars. The Bird caliper also came with the early/late dust boot ring as stated above. The only Mustang application to use the Bird up front were the TA Boss 302's in Stage 3 configuration, using a drum brake spindle and special mounting bracket, similar in design but larger than the 65-67.
FYI the Doge Dart and similar small Chrysler cars used the same small K/H caliper casting as the Mustang but it had a different inlet set up, but could be used on a Ford application with some simple machine work.

Hi Paul, I compared what I think are my original Shelby calipers with a set that I thought were 67 Mustang. They all carry (what I think is) 68977 casting #, 3/8" x 24 inlet threads, boot retainers pressed into the bore, and 1.625" bores. They all look identical, which still leaves me puzzled as to why Ol Shel swapped them in the first place? I took some pictures, I'll have to figure out how to post them:blink:

    Hi,
My 84-2555 DSO document specifies the same and maybe it's just the
different brake pads that were specified for the Shelbys.
The document says complete disc brake calipers and the pads are not
    specified anywhere else.
    Just a thought,
    Texas Swede
