Hello, I first started admiring that old Mustang with the blue stripes on it when I was 14 years old. I am now 42 and admire it just as much today if not more. While I was going to school I got a job at a Shelby/Mustang restoration shop in Westlake Village Ca. I pestered the owner so much that he finally gave me a job and compensated me with parts for my 65 GT coupe. I am still friends with the owners of that shop and owe much to them (Thanks Kit if you are out there) I remember going to Mustang shows with my boss and can clearly remember (as im sure many of you do as well) when you could purchase a show winning 65 for around 15K. I was making $5.00 and hours and 15K was a lot of money back then (actually it still is!!!). Two years later I spent 10K on a 66 Mustang conv. I cant help but think that had I been born 2 or 3 years earlier I could have purchased my Shelby (yes I would still have it). Anyways, a Shelby was out of my budget and sadly has stayed out of my budget ever since. Oh well, im over it now or at least I keep telling myself that. I currently own a 71 LT1 Corvette conv (matching #s, all the documentation, 2X Top Flight) which I am very proud of. Actually the gentleman who owned it prior to me purchased a 68KR Fastback a couple of years ago. In 8 years or so (house will be paid off!!!!) I plan on purchasing my 65 or 66 Shelby. In the meantime I will continue to read my Shelby literature and I look forward to learning a lot from this forum. Have a great weekend and enjoy those Shelbys. Thanks
Thanks and I wont lose focus. This foum looks really entertaining as well as very informative. My girlfriend cant believe im not buying a new one but in my humble opinion it would just amount to spending 50K in the wrong direction and as well as a step in the wrong direction. Thanks for the encouragement.
I would not be surprised if you could get a nice car when your house pays off and at a decent price. Some of the baby boomers will probably be getting out of there cars by then. Anyway, stay focused and I am sure you get one.
I too am anticipating a possible buyers market around that time as well. Im just trying my best to be ready to do something when/if the circumstances allow. If the opportunity arrives a little earlier than anticipated I could always used the Vette as a downpayment. As I stated previously that would make for the second time my Vette would be used as a stepping stone for a Shelby.
