I have been looking at the new GT500s and really like the car. However, a friend of mine told me the 2003/2004 SVT supercharged Cobra would be a better investment. What do you think??

I think either would be a poor "investment". These are new cars that will go through a depreciation cycle before they begin to appreciate any collector value.

I have read several posts lately where people want to know what they should buy.... My belief is that you should get what you want not what the guy down the street tells you is nice.
Sorta like hummmm.... should I marry the blonde with the nice body that can't cook or the brunette that is a little overweight, has a great personality and knows her way around the kitchen.:D
I always wanted a Shelby Mustang so I bought one.
People told me to get married and settle down, so I did.... now I'm divorced!

Lifes goal is not to arrive at the grave in a relaxed, well preserved body, but to come sliding in sideways, totally worn out, screaming...
    Holy Crap What a Ride!!!!!

P.S. The car was cheaper than the divorce!

Doug GT350: Your response was not only a.....

classic but a lesson about life. I married once because I thought that it was the "right thing" to do. !8 years later she hated the sight of me, left me for her boss, turned our two sons over to me to finish raising, and tried to take 50% of everything I owned. So much for doing the right thing for someone else. 22 years after the divorce I'm glad she left and I just keep adding to my collection of Shelby's. Take care and God bless.

Can you give some insight as to why your friend would think the svt cobra would be a better investment.
Id say the shelby would be a better investment in the long (when i say 'long' i mean loooooonnnnnnnng) run simply because it has the name SHELBYon it!
Niether car will be a collector item anytime soon.
If your willing to hold onto it for a loooooonnnnnng time then you might get your money back.
These cars arent meant to be investments, they are meant to be driven and enjoyed.
    Hope that helped!
    BEst Regards,
    Vern

First of all, only one of these choices could you be the original owner of 20 years from now. As far as future value, who knows. Just buy what you like. If the car is not worth a bunch in the future you will still have a cool car that you can enjoy!

The GT500 will be worth more than the 03/04 SVT Cobra in the future. Shelby name, 500 factory HP, better styling (most would agree), and better build quality. Most 03/04 Cobras will have been modded. The GT500's will either be stock garage queens or modded. The stock ones will be worth more. All just a semi-educated guess.
