What TV shows about car restoration or...

I kinda like Dream Car Garage on SPEED.

I know it is off the topic but i really like "Pinks"...minus the cheesy host.

 

Pinks???????? I stoped watching Pinks when just about every show had people claiming they had a super fast car.......then ask for 10 lengths. One show, a guy demanded 18 lengths. I laughed the whole show. They should have taken his car away and sent him home on the bus. As many people who sub mit their cars for the show, they could at least set up closer races. "Pinks All Out" is a little better though.

Now back to the Topic....... Barrett-Jackson did a Show where 4 Teams were given the same amount of Money to buy Cars. They went out and bought cars to do some or a lot work on, and then take them to Auctions. You saw the whole process. The Team with the most Profit at the end of the season WINS. You might be able to buy the Shows on DVD.

Are you kidding me???!!! The hustle is the best part of the show...i guess you have never drag racer or hustled for cash because that aspect of the show is my favorite part. The show tells you to bring a "10 second car" and one guys shows up with a ten second car and the other guy shows up with something a lot faster. Then they sand bag the races and ask for lengths and in the end the guy with his head in the game leaves with a new car. Dave lets set up our own Pinks...you bring your car and i will bring mine and we will see who can hustle and drive...

 

I used to drag race (1/4 mile) back in the 80's with my 1970 Mach 1 428 SCJ 4 Spd. It was built up, engine by Neil Connell Racing Engines, 720HP at the rear wheels. When I raced it was a "Winner Take ALL" with just one run. If you broke, you lost. If you "Jumped the Line" (Red Lighted) you lost. If you did not cross the finish line first, you Lost. I don't see that many cars on Pinks that are Faster then 11 Seconds. "Pinks All Out" is a lot better because you have the Betting for Cash and you get to see what the Cars can realy do. No one demanding 10 lenghts. I am Planning a "Cannonball Drags" for sometime next year that will start with either 16 Cars or 32 Cars..... Still working out the details but the winner may go home with $10,000.00. I choose the Cars that will run. I will post it up here when I get things closer to being worked out.

I saw that show. 3 teams given $100,000 each to buy 4 cars, fix them up and sell at Barret Jackson. Proceeds went to charity. I loved when the one team bought the AMC Rebel. I don't recall the name of the show right now.

 

The whole show is the negotiations. Without that is just some boring show watching cars go down the track. I like the All Out version even more. Nothing beats heads up racing with evenly matched cars! I go to the track at least once a month and I know what a difference the driver alone can make.

P.S. John I'll take you up on the Pink's thing if you are ever out this way. Just not for titles.

 

I recall the B/J car show. it had promise, but the buyerswere a mixed lot of egos thrown together and really did not work well together which kind of killed the show.

 

I know alot of people may not like the finished products, but I've always liked Overhauling,no yelling or screaming,and it looks like they're all having a good time

 

Over Haulin is a good show.......... I wish they would Travel to different States.

Well then you used to drag race...then you know when street racing it is all about the hustle...maybe tanking one race for small $ to hook the big fish for big $$$. While i didn't get my lic till the 90's i have raced my fair share both on the track and on the street and the driver makes all the difference....big horsepower, torque and slicks help too.

And your 428 SCJ making 720 hp at the rear wheels...what kinda compression did it have? 13:1? Big loping cam? A ton of head work? Or was it stroked? I pushing 650 hp in my 69 Camaro RS/SS with a decent amount of work done to a 502 zz motor...6 speed...4.10's and DOT slicks....would have been a good race...

 

I always like Overhaulin' until i got invited to the set to see the work in progress. I couldnt believe how many corners were cut and quality of the paint. Then when i was told after the owner gets surprised with his car they take the car to a shop where it gets rebuilt...build time 6 months .

 

I dont make it to Michigan very often...do you make it SoCal?

 

Man it was sweet....... 13:1 Comp. with forged pop ups, I had to flood it with fuel just to get it to turn over. I had to run Holley's biggest Carb (at that time) and fuel pump just to keep enough Gas in the cylenders. It had a wicked bump stick, un-capped, it sounded like a Top Fulie. Major Machine work and Balancing was done. Hooker tuned headers and bolt on Cherry Bombs was all I used for Exhaust.........made it easier to un-cap. I ran a Purple Hayes Clutch and had to feather it at the start to keep the sticky N-50's from Spinning. I miss the Car but if i had kept it, I would not have owned the ones after that one.

A show that really kicks is a show on SPIKE TV called "MUSCLE CAR". They show a TON of how to tips and I got a ton of helpful info on body work tips and techniques. They just pulled into the shop a 65 Mustang they plan on turning into a Shelby clone...its on SAT. 12:30-1:00 AND SUN 11:30-12:00...CHECK IT OUT!

I figured it had to have major compression and a monster carb to feed it. Cool motor and cool car. It would be tough to drive today with the cost of race gas...pump gas just wont due with 13:1.

 

Believe it or not.....when I owned it, it never seen a drop of Race Fuel. Pump Gas all the way and it was my Daily Driver. The people living around me hated it though........ firing that beast up at 6:00am to go to work and comming home at 3:00am from playing Friday & Saturday nights. Man, those were the day, (early 80's and only 23) what a blast.

On Discovery HD there is a show Classic Car Restoration...It is on Friday night 10 PM est and another at 11 PM est. They just completed a seven show series restomodding a 66 fastback mustang. Some of the products they show are interseting. Prior to the mustang they were doing an old Packard and showed a kit to make light lenses. There is also Appraise my Car...not sure what channel that is on...the DVR has made me dumb.....but they did a bunch of shows from Carisle PA.....interesting commentary about some of the cars....
